"The Rite of Spring" depicts the scene when people sacrifice to the heavens when spring comes.
Westerners sacrifice the Apollo sun god in spring, but they sacrifice a maiden dancing on the altar to death. It's a very primitive way. This piece was first performed in Paris, and it was very controversial after the performance, some people were very supportive of praise, some people disagreed, and finally fought over and even fisted and kicked, so it is a controversial work in the history of music.

Originally conceived as a symphony, Tyazirev persuaded Stravinsky to write it as a ballet. The Rite of Spring depicts the celebration of spring by primitive Tribes of Russia, with both a distinctly Russian style and a strong primitive Expressionist color. The Charity of Spring cuts off from classical music in many aspects, including music, rhythm, harmony, and so on.
The Estede of Spring is a two-act ballet, an early masterpiece of modern Russian ballet, premiered in 1913 by the Gagilev Russian Ballet at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, written by Stravinsky and Roylic, composed by Stravinsky, conducted by Monte, choreographed by Niginsky, set and costume designed by Royrich.
This work is based on the fertility worship ceremony of the virgin goddess in the primitive tribes of Russia, and there are 70 male and female characters of all ages, with a strong Russian primitive folk style. The original script is positioned as "a number of Russian pagan pictures in two acts", indicating that it will no longer inherit the narrative tradition of classical ballet, and there will be no personality conflicts and dramatic conflicts between characters, so as to draw a clear line with romantic and classical ballets before the end of the 19th century, such as "Swan Lake".
When the work was first performed, it caused a huge riot in the theater, and both those who opposed it and those who appreciated it were shocked by the rough dance and the unregulated music, and the large number of harsh discordant intervals in the music seemed to herald the end of the world, and the feet buckled inwards and clumsy downward anti-ballet movements also made the conservative audience of Paris, the "capital of ballet", furious. The audience split into opposing factions, insulting and fighting each other, and the music titan Saint-San left the table in anger, while Ravel and Debussy cheered enthusiastically. The play ceased after only six performances in Paris and London.
The advent of "The Rite of Spring" heralded the arrival of a new century of earth-shaking and diversified aesthetics, which had a profound impact on both modern music and modern ballet art, and became a classic on the art stage. It has always attracted talented choreographers from all over the world, becoming the most vital and most widely published work in the history of ballet, of which there are more than a hundred well-known versions.
