Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported that JR Tokai said that there have also been collapses in the past during the construction of the maglev Chuo Shinkansen, but there have been deaths for the first time. According to the plan, the main line tunnel of the Seto Tunnel is about 4.4 kilometers long, and the emergency exit tunnel that is also used to carry materials to the main line is about 0.6 kilometers long, and construction began in 2019. The collapse occurred at the excavation site about 70 metres diagonally below the ground entrance of the emergency exit tunnel. Police will investigate the details of the accident.
