It is reported that the rhododendron is one of the top ten traditional flowers in China, the provincial flower of Jiangxi Province, and the symbol of Jiangxi's red culture. There are about 1,000 species of wild rhododendrons in the world, but most of them are distributed in alpine environments above 1,000 meters above sea level, and they prefer cold, cool, humid, rainy and foggy climatic conditions, resulting in rich wild resources that have been located in high mountains and deep valleys, and a large number of precious species cannot be met with the public.
Lushan Botanical Garden is located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, above 1000 meters above sea level, the cool and humid climate is very suitable for the growth and reproduction of rhododendrons, rhododendron research is also the park in the Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the discipline positioning and traditional advantages. Over the past few decades, the park has collected and preserved more than 330 species and nearly 300 varieties of rhododendron original species from home and abroad, and established 5 rhododendron special garden, which is the largest unit of domestic conservation of rhododendron species and an internationally important rhododendron germplasm gene bank. Rhododendron blooms mostly in late April, but due to climate, this year's rhododendron blooms more than 10 days earlier than in previous years.
In addition, on the day of the event, in the newly opened science popularization hall of Lushan Botanical Garden, the winning works of the first photo contest of "Drunken Lushan Botanical Garden" were exhibited. The event will last until May 23, during which a series of activities such as popular science education and photo contests will be held.
