Jade-headed Hime

Sapphira Ficedula

Jade-headed Grebe, belonging to the vertebrates, ornithischia, passeriformes, orygos. It is distributed in Sichuan, Yunnan, Shaanxi and other places. Photo taken in Yingjiang.

This is a kind of bird that will be loved when you see it, and when they become adults, they are only about 10 centimeters long, and their round black eyes reveal the innocence of not knowing the world.

The picture shows the back of a male bird, we can see that its waist and tail coverts are dark blue; the top of the head is faintly blue chestnut color, if you see a bird with a posture very similar to it, but the top of the head and forehead are blue, then it is likely to be a jade-headed eagle, because they have 3 subspecies in China, which look slightly different. Female adults mostly have olive-brown upperparts and ordinary body color.

It not only appears in the high mountains and hemlock forests of Yunnan, but also in the Qinling Mountains in the north, often moving alone or in pairs, and when roosting, they will lower their wings and constantly swing their tail feathers up and down. They are accustomed to hunting insects for food in the canopy of trees, and the "Flycatcher" (flycatcher) in their English name "Sapphire Flycatcher" shows that they are very capable of preying on insects.

Usually, from the end of April to June, they have a breeding season, when they nest in tree holes or rock crevices to welcome new members of the family.
