According to the Yonhap News Agency reported on the 17th, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense said on the same day that of the 16 soldiers who enlisted in the army from 2016 to 2018, 13 had a significantly higher vacation time than ordinary soldiers, of which 4 were given more than 100 days of vacation, far higher than the average number of 59 days of vacation days for ordinary South Korean army soldiers in 2018.

South Korea's "Sunday News" used the example of actor Lin Shiquan, who retired from the army in March this year. During his service, Lin Shiquan took a total of 123 days of leave, including 28 days of annual leave, 18 days of commendation leave, 51 days of condolence leave, 14 days of compensatory leave, and 12 days of sick leave. In this regard, Lin Shiquan's brokerage company has explained that Lin Shiquan's 123-day leave specifically includes regular leave, sick leave, participation in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and condolence leave. In addition, Lin Shiquan served as an assistant teacher in the new barracks, and the average number of vacation days for outstanding assistant teachers in his unit exceeded 100 days.

Some analysts believe that the main reason why artists take more vacations as soldiers is that they can get "condolence leave" after participating in external activities. However, there are also critics who argue that this practice of participating in foreign activities and receiving leave as compensation is in fact a resurgence of South Korea's "literary and artistic soldier system", which was abolished in 2013. South Korean military sources said the troops did not violate the leave rules. (Ding Jieyun)
