During the Battle of Yuan Cao, Yuan Shao had a military general named Gao Lan, who, like Zhang Gao, was a general under Yuan Shao second only to Yan Liangwen. Beihai Taishou Kong Rong once commented:

His subordinates, such as Xu You, Guo Tu, Zhen Pei, and Feng Ji, were all wise men; Tian Feng and Feng Zhi were all loyal ministers; Yan Liang and Wen Ugly Yongguan were three armies; and the rest of the famous generals such as Gao Lan, Zhang Guo, and Chun Yuqiong were all worldly famous generals.
Hebei Four Court Pillars
In the commentary, Gao Lan and Yan Liang, Wen Ugly, and Zhang Gao are called "Hebei Four Court Pillars". In the battle with Cao Cao's army, it was natural to have a fighting general in front of the battle, and the original book wrote:
angry, Zhang Liao went to war. Zhang Tai leaps horses to greet him. The two generals fought forty or fifty times, regardless of victory or defeat. Cao Cao saw it and secretly marveled. Xu Chu swung his sword and rode straight out to help the battle. Gao Lan held it with a gun. The four members will catch and kill each other. Cao Cao ordered Xiahou Huan and Cao Hong, each with three thousand troops, to rush to the other side.

In this battle, Gao Lan fought with Xu Chu, but did not write how many rounds of the confrontation were fought, only the term "catch the child and kill" can be speculated. After that, there were few fighting generals with Cao Cao's army, and most of them were engaged by the leaders of both sides. After Wuchao was attacked, Gao Lan and Zhang Gao were also defeated, and instigated by the strategist Guo Tu, Zhang Gao and Gao Lan were afraid of being questioned by Yuan Shao and turned to Cao Cao.

Zhang Tai was made the General of partiality and marquis of Duting, and Gao Lan was made the general of partial general and marquis of Eastern Lai. The two were overjoyed.
In Cao Cao's army, there were also too many fierce generals, such as Xu Chu, Zhang Liao, Xu Huang, Xiahou Brothers and others, so that Gao Lan, who was known for his strength, felt a sense of crisis, unlike in Yuan Shaojun, who could casually mix his days, so Gao Lan made various decisions: change weapons!
In Yuan Shaojun's time, Gao Lan used a gun as a weapon, "Gao Lan held the gun", and by the time he fought Liu Beijun at the Battle of Runan, Gao Lan's weapon had been replaced by a knife:

Gao Lan, on the other hand, may feel that the lethality of a weapon such as a gun is insufficient, and it is not as powerful as the knife, so he changed his weapon and wanted to improve his martial arts and improve his status in the Cao Army. From the highlight of life, in the blink of an eye, he has died here. Some people say that Zhao Yun's gun picked up this section, which cannot be regarded as two generals single-handedly, but can only be regarded as rushing to kill from behind, and the unprepared Gao Lan sneaked to death. Some people also said that from the chaos of the rear army to Zhao Yun's killing to the present, Gao Lan had time to react and deal with it, but Zhao Yun's gun was like an electric flint, too fast, and only one round would stab Gao Lan to death who had not resisted.
But in any case, the death of this former famous general in Hebei is indeed somewhat ironic, using a gun as a weapon to fight for half a life, one day, suddenly felt that this weapon is not as good as a knife, and then at the moment of his death, he witnessed the fastest gun in the world -

Different from the usual how much and how much, which will kill which will be different, this is the author's rare specific description of the martial arts of the martial arts, and it is even more amazing to read. The description here also allows Zhao Yun to have more of a "pear blossom gun" or "rainstorm pear blossom gun" marksmanship in later generations.
