A collapse accident occurred at a tunnel construction site in Gifu Prefecture on the Japan Maglev Chuo Shinkansen on the evening of October 27, killing one person and seriously injuring one.
Japanese media quoted gifu prefectural police and Nippon Railways Tokai Company as saying that the casualties were two male staff members who carried out blasting operations in the tunnel, and the injured had been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Japan Railways Tokai said that the maglev Chuo Shinkansen project has also had tunnel collapse accidents in the past, but this is the first time that there have been deaths.
