Mt. Fuji in Japan is also an "immortal mountain"? What does it have to do with the moon goddess Hui Ye Ji?

author:National Human History

What is the relationship between the well-known Japanese moon goddess Hui Ye Hime and the first lunar goddess Moon Reading Life? The answer is that it doesn't matter. Judging from the records of the texts, Hui Ye Ji appeared two centuries later than the moon reading life. In fact, the monthly reading of the life should have appeared earlier in word of mouth mythology.

Hui Ye Ji, also known as Takehime, is the protagonist of the Japanese literary work "Taketori Monogatari" (also known as "Hui Ye Ji Monogatari Monogatari") in the early 10th century, the author has no way to verify, but it has an important place in the history of Japanese literature - the earliest Japanese Monogatari literature. The story of "Taketori Story" is not long, telling the story of an old man who cut bamboo, Taketori Oshi, found a glowing bamboo in the bamboo forest, and after cutting it, there was a three-inch long little person, and the old man took the child home in his hand and took it home as his own child. Since raising this child, the old man always found gold in the bamboo tube when cutting bamboo, and the taketori couple became increasingly wealthy. As the child grew older, Mr. and Mrs. Taketori discovered that she grew older and prettier, and that she would glow in the dark room, so they invited a man named Saibe Akita to name her, and the name "Hui Ye Hime" was born, which means to shine even in the dark of night.

/ Hui Ye Hime Returns to Tsukigu Palace, Late 19th Century Japanese Ukiyo-e.

Hui Ye Ji grew into a beautiful girl with the appearance of a country and a city. Her beauty was soon known to many people, and men in the world, rich and poor, wanted to marry Hui Ye Ji. However, the vulgar men who came to court were all rejected by Hui Ye Ji, and then five powerful noble men came, but none of them passed the test set by Hui Ye Ji. Soon after, Hui Ye Ji's refusal to propose marriage to many men attracted the attention of the Emperor, the Emperor wanted to summon Hui Ye Ji into the palace, but he did not expect to be rejected, so he borrowed the hunting as an excuse to taketori's house, wanted to personally pull Hui Ye Ji from the house to his royal car, did not expect that as soon as he moved, Hui Ye Ji's body suddenly disappeared, and there was no trace of it! The Emperor then believed that she was not an ordinary woman and gave up his plan to summon her to the palace. After returning to the palace, the emperor missed Hui Ye Ji very much, and would often write poetry letters to send to her, and Hui Ye Ji would also reply to the emperor and comfort each other, and over time they became pen pals.

In fact, Hui Ye Ji is not high and cold, she has her own helplessness. Taketori found that as long as the moon appeared, Hui Ye Hime would always sigh at the moon. Until one day, she cried very sadly and told Taketori about her life: she was not an ordinary person, she had been sent to this world because of some cause in her previous life, and now it was time to go back. She also spoke the truth to Taketori, "I came to this land for a very short time. But finally lived for such a long time. Now, I don't miss my parents much in the moon world, but I think it is much more tame and amiable here. I went back to the moon world and was not happy, only sad. ”

Hui Ye Ji could not but leave after all, and on the night of the full moon on august fifteen, the Moon Palace really came to pick up Hui Ye Ji, even if Taketori Weng was unwilling, he could only watch his raised daughter soar to the moon. Before leaving, Hui Ye-hime said to the nurturing Taketori couple, "After that, every night when there is a moon, please look at the moon." Interestingly, in the story of Hui Ye Ji, there is also the "Immortal Medicine". China's Chang'e is a mortal who eats the immortal medicine Shengxian, while the Japanese Hui Ye Ji gives the immortal medicine to mortals, and this person is the emperor who has been communicating with her. On the occasion of parting, she wrote the verse "Feather dressed to ascend to heaven, remembering the sadness of the king", and handed the letter to Chincha along with the immortal medicine. After receiving the letter, the Emperor was heartbroken when he learned that Hui Ye Ji had returned to the Moon Palace, and wrote: "I can't see Hui Ye Ji again, and use the elixir of immortality?" ”

Instead of taking the immortal medicine, the emperor gave the poem and the medicine to an emissary named Tsukiwawa and ordered him to take it to the top of the "closest to heaven" mountain in Suruga Kingdom and burn it. Since then, this place has been called "Immortal Mountain", which later evolved into "Mt. Fuji". As we all know, Mt. Fuji is a dormant volcano, and it is said that the smoke emitted by Mt. Fuji will rise into the clouds until it is above the moon.
