His childhood was more bumpy than in the TV series

Peng Shilu was born in a revolutionary family, his father was peng Pan, a proletarian revolutionary in the early days of the Communist Party of China, a famous leader of the peasant movement, and a revolutionary martyr, and it was for this reason that Peng Shilu's family was constantly persecuted before liberation. At the age of 3, Peng Shilu's mother was killed by the enemy; at the age of 4, his father also died heroically.
As an orphan, he has long become a "thorn in the flesh" in the eyes of the enemy. Other people's childhoods may be happy, but his earliest memories of life are about escape.
In order to escape the frenzied pursuit and killing of the Kuomintang, Peng Shilu began a life of his people's families, eating hundreds of meals, and wearing hundreds of clothes. He was successively adopted by more than two dozen revolutionary families, transferred from one family to another, and had one "father" and "mother" after another. As the TV series said, he has dozens of mothers, all of whom treat him like their own children, giving him food and clothing, protecting him, and doing their best to let him read and write.

In 1935, the 10-year-old Peng Shilu finally walked out of the "correctional hospital", but because the "aunt" who took care of him was still in prison, he could only eat with an aunt who could not remember his name.
In 1936, the 11-year-old Peng Shilu was imprisoned again, but fortunately his grandmother and the party organization tried every means to rescue him from prison.
After his release from prison, Peng Shilu went to Hong Kong with his grandmother, and at the age of 15, under the arrangement of the organization, he came to Yan'an and met his father's good friend, Premier Zhou Enlai. Years later, Peng Shilu still remembers what Premier Zhou said to him: "Child, I have finally found you." Since then, Peng Shilu has ended his painful childhood life.
Past experiences have made Peng Shilu understand gratitude and return, and his parents' blood for the people and the motherland has been passed on to him. He said, "Although my surname is 'Peng', I will always be surnamed 'Hundred Family Names' in my heart."
A conversation changed his life
In 1951, Peng Shilu was admitted to the Soviet Union to study abroad, and before leaving, he met Premier Zhou Enlai again. Premier Zhou earnestly instructed the international students: "You must study hard, study hard, learn well, and serve the construction of the socialist motherland after returning to China." ”

In 1956, when Peng Shilu successfully graduated and was preparing to return to China, a conversation changed his life.
General Chen Geng, who was visiting the Soviet Union, secretly summoned Peng Shilu: "The central authorities have decided to let a group of international students change their careers to atomic energy and nuclear power. ”
"Of course I do, as long as the motherland needs it!" Without any hesitation, Peng Shilu blurted out.
Soon, Peng Shilu entered the Moscow Institute of Power Engineering, where the Chinese government paid an additional 80 rubles to Soviet professors for each lesson. Peng Shilu, like other international students, knows that learning opportunities are not easy to come by, and they study hard every second, and they hardly sleep before 12 o'clock in the evening.
In 1958, Peng Shilu received a secret order to return to China, and together with Huang Xuhua and Chen Yuan, he formed a 29-person team to develop missile nuclear submarines.

With a strong spirit, Peng Shilu and everyone gradually found out the basic situation of foreign nuclear power plants and nuclear power units.
However, a new situation has emerged, and for various reasons, the nuclear submarine project has been forced to be dismounted, except for Peng Shilu and Huang Xuhua, who have been preserved, and the rest of the people have gone their separate ways.
In the days of waiting for the project to restart, Peng Shilu was not idle, and he was not depressed. As the deputy director of the Nuclear Power Research Laboratory, he conducted a large number of data calculations and presided over the scheme demonstration of the shielded experimental reactor, laying a solid foundation for the completion of the subsequent experimental reactor. In addition to his research, he has also taken on the responsibility of training Chinese nuclear professionals, from a research institute on the outskirts of Beijing to the University of Science and Technology of China on the west side of Chang'an Avenue, teaching himself. Two years later, the people in the room had become experts in nuclear power, seeds for nuclear submarine engineering.
In 1965, the nuclear submarine project was restarted, and Peng Shilu led an advance team of several hundred people to quietly come to a deep mountain in Sichuan and began to secretly build a submarine nuclear-powered land-based mode reactor test base.
In order to ensure that the project was completed on time, Peng Shilu withstood tremendous pressure and with the support of the Party Central Committee, began to mobilize all the forces that could be mobilized, and began to fight a war with time. He eats and lives on the construction site throughout the day, goes to the base excavation site during the day to solve rock formation excavation problems, and works with technicians at night to study equipment installation plans and detailed plans.

Whenever there was an argument, he always stood up and made a decision: "Yes, the credit counts yours; wrong, the responsibility counts mine." Hence the nickname "Peng Paiban".
Zhang Jingcai and Huang Shijian and other old experts have concluded, "He is not blindly making decisions, often asking the first sentence 'What about experimental data?' At this time, Peng Shilu was already so tired that he was paralyzed in his chair, and before that, he had not slept for five days and five nights.
In order to develop the first nuclear submarine of New China, Peng Shilu started from scratch, he acted heavily, did not talk about it, immersed himself in hard work, and forged ahead in a pioneering spirit, so that China's first nuclear submarine was launched two years after it was launched, launched three years after construction, and launched four years later, on August 1, 1974, it was officially included in the naval combat sequence, creating a speed rare in the history of nuclear submarines in the world.
Looking back on those years of hard work, Peng Shilu said: "What do we rely on for success? It depends on patriotism, the wisdom and synergy of the group, and the strength of a cow! In this grand project, I, like all scientific research staff, have done the work of laying bricks and tiles! ”
