In an exclusive interview this month, Liu Chuanxing, the former main center of the Qingdao team of the China Men's Basketball Professional League (CBA), has been staying in a hotel in Melbourne for nearly ten days, basically adapting to the three-hour time difference with China, the isolation meal dominated by Western food and the daily uninterrupted indoor strength training.
In his words, joining the fierce Australian Basketball League (NBL) will start everything from scratch, challenge your limits, and let your career continue to move up, so as to fight until you "don't regret" the level and position you chose basketball in the first place.
The hotel isolation is boring and regular League and clubs give support
After arriving in Australia in October, Liu Chuanxing spent some time jet lag. Sometimes he wakes up at six in the morning and gets up for strength training. With limited space inside, he insisted on strength training with a leather band and a portable water bag that could be used to practice squatting and weight-bearing on his body.
A few days after he stayed in the quarantine hotel, the new owner, the Bullet Club brisbane, brought in equipment such as fitness bikes to enrich his training.
"The team basically cares about how my life is going every day, because I'm afraid I'm bored of isolating here... In short, I hope I will arrive at the team as soon as possible. ”
During the quarantine period, the three meals were mainly Western food, which made Liu Chuanxing feel a little uncomfortable when he arrived in Australia. However, he said that it also helps to control his diet a little, balance his strength training and weight control, and prepare for the new season.
In English communication, he said that basketball terminology is basically a little bit, but more in-depth communication, including the coach's code instructions, need to be adapted as soon as possible. To this end, the club helped him find a Chinese translator, and he also learned English "overtime".
Talking about the release of the quarantine on October 28, the 2.25-meter-tall center player said that what he was most looking forward to was "wanting to go out quickly, breathe in the air outside, and improve the food."
It was also the first time of his career that he played in an overseas league, the first time in Australia.
An important stop in your career is to fight until you don't regret it
Just before the start of the new season in the Australian League, the 2020-2021 season is the third season of Liu Chuanxing's CBA career. In the regular season, he averaged 22 minutes per game, contributing 9.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 1.1 blocks, all of which set career highs. The outstanding performance of the Qingdao team has won More Attention for Liu Chuanxing. Not only was he drafted by the national training team, but he was also named to the CBA All-Star Team for the first time.
Speaking of the reason for choosing the NBL, Liu Chuanxing said that based on the understanding of all aspects, everyone generally evaluates that this league is "fierce and the level is quite high", and in the past two years, I have also seen many rookies in MLB, and I have also played in the Australian League before, which shows that I should be able to get exercise and improvement here.
"I've been physically deficient, and then I've got to the basketball awareness technique, and I'm definitely improving, because everyone knows the league level." He said.
"This stop in Australia is a great opportunity for me. I also want to improve through the league, and I think there should be a lot of room for improvement... I will do my best to absorb what is useful and what can be transformed into my own. ”
MlOs are the dream of many professional players. Liu Chuanxing said that there is definitely a goal of constantly fighting upwards, but the premise is to take one step at a time and do a good job in front of you first.
Speaking about the new season, he said that everything has to start from scratch. "I start with the subtle aspects of defense and rebounding, and try to make my biggest contribution to the team."
Agreed with Zhou Qi to "refuel together"
As for the reason for choosing the Brisbane club, Liu Chuanxing said that the NBL league and the club have given him a lot of sincerity and given him a lot of support and help. And this team has also learned about itself, is a strong team in the Australian League, has won several championships, and has also played warm-up matches with the Chinese men's national basketball team before.
After the release, Liu Said he would fly to Brisbane immediately to join the team and begin to resume training and pre-season preparations. The club currently has a new coaching team, and the coach hopes that he will start from defense and improve the defensive ability of the whole team, and he also hopes to adapt quickly.
A highlight of the new season is that another Chinese player, Zhou Qi, has also joined the Australian League and signed with the Southeast Melbourne Phoenix. This means that the two centers of the Chinese men's basketball team will be expected to bring a showdown in the league.
"For the new season, I am very much looking forward to it, just do my best and perform well. At that time of the National Games, I met Brother Qi, and he also told me that after coming here, let's cheer together. ”
