Yin Zhen, the originator of Guizhou humanities- the origin of the name of Daozhen County, Guizhou

On the right lawn of the statue of Confucius in front of the Chinese Culture College of Guizhou University, there is a seated statue of Zhu Jian with a slightly raised head and smiling eyes, and on both sides of the body is a statue of Bamboo Jane symbolizing the seeds of Confucian culture sown on the plateau.

It is a statue of Yin Zhen, the originator of Guizhou humanities and a pioneer of education.

This is a statue erected only in 2010, in addition to the Yin Gong Ancestral Hall next to the Yangming Ancestral Hall of Fufeng Mountain in Guiyang, the Han Sanxian Ancestral Hall in zunyi area, and a large number of Yin Zhen statues in Zheng'an County and Daozhen County.

So why does Yin Zhen also allow people? How much impact does it have on education in Guizhou?

Yin Zhen (79–162), courtesy name Daozhen, was a native of Wuxian Commandery (present-day Zheng'an County, Guizhou Province) in the Eastern Han Dynasty.

He was born into the Yin family, one of the "four major families" of the Han Dynasty in Guizhou at that time (the story of the first migration of Guizhou caused the four major families in the previous article of this issue), and he was the first famous Confucian scholar, writer, educator and calligrapher in Guizhou who went out of the mountains to inquire about the Central Plains culture.

He once served as Shang Shu Chenglang and Jingzhou Assassin History, and was the originator of humanities in Guizhou.

Yin Zhen came from a rich family but did not have a clumsy habit, and was intelligent and studious since childhood.

At the age of 20, he already had a considerable foundation and was famous in the countryside near and far, but he was not satisfied, thinking that he lived in the wilderness.

So he resolutely trekked thousands of miles to Luoyang to learn art.

Higashiyama Habitat

In those days, there were no airplanes, no high-speed trains, no trains and cars, and all the way was measured by two feet.

In historical research, only an official road of five feet can reach southern Sichuan, and then through the Shu Road that is difficult to reach the qingtian can reach Luoyang.

That is to say, many places are small roads, or there is no road, go down in one direction, what kind of road will it be?

It was a hunger and thirst along the way, and a 20-year-old reader still needed great perseverance to get to Luoyang.

After all the hardships along the way, after arriving in Luoyang, he worshiped Xu Shen as his teacher!

Who is Xu Shen? It was the one who wrote the Shuowen Jiezi and the Five Classics of Different Meanings, who was a famous Confucian master and scribe at that time.

We can all speculate on how difficult it would take for a 20-year-old young man from the wilderness to learn from contemporary Confucianism. But Yin Zhen still succeeded.

After Yin Zhen visited his teacher, he got up early and went to bed late every day, and followed Xu Shen to study Confucian classics and philology, because he was diligent and studious, and his progress was very fast.

According to records, during his study, Xu Shen wrote the "Explanation of Words in The Sayings", so we also have reason to believe that there are also some credits for Yin Zhen in the "Explanation of Words", perhaps collecting information, or sorting, or perhaps part of him writing.

At the same time, under the guidance of Xu Shen, Yin Zhen studied seal calligraphy and practiced calligraphy, and his calligraphy skills were greatly improved, and he became a famous calligrapher, especially a fine calligrapher.

Later calligraphy monographs of the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, the Tang Dynasty's "Essential Records of the Law Books", and the Qing Dynasty's "Guangjin Shiyunfu" all have the name of Yin Zhen and contain Yin Zhen's calligraphy works.

In 107 AD, the 28-year-old Yin Zhen finally returned from his studies in Luoyang, and he did not forget that his hometown returned to Wushu, and was warmly welcomed by the people of his hometown, and Yin Zhen also set up a museum to receive apprentices in the "Hand-built Caotang Sanyao" in WushuBa as everyone expected.

The footprints covered Yelang (Tongzi), Wu (Zheng'an), Nanpingjun (Chongqing Nanchuan), Yan (Zunyi) and other counties, so "there was a learning in the southern region".

Yin Zhen's main teaching scope at that time

Yin Zhen is one of the founders of early education in Guizhou, known as "Southern Region Knowledge and Learning from the Beginning", which has a far-reaching influence on the culture of southwest China.

"Whoever belongs to the old county of Mu Mu is not called a first teacher without land."

In fact, before the Republic of China, many areas in the southwest had Yin Zhen Ancestral Hall, and the local Confucian Temple without Yin Zhen Ancestral Hall would also have Yin Zhen's sacrifice tablet.

This also reflects the admiration for Yin Zhen in later generations.

In 153 AD, Yin Zhen, who was already in his seventies, worshiped Ying Feng as a teacher in Wuling County (present-day Xiangxi, Hunan, and Qiandongnan, Guizhou), studied Tuwei (theology at that time), and mastered the three talents of "heaven and earth people".

It is generally believed that Yin Zhen's education is divided into two stages.

The first stage is Mongolian studies, where students are mainly literate and literate, of course, writing the orthographic small seal, and receiving some simple sentence reading, rhyme and literary knowledge in the process of literacy and writing. Because Yin Zhen himself is good at calligraphy and has high requirements for students, most of his students have high calligraphy attainments.

In the second stage, students mainly study Confucian classics such as the Analects and the Book of Filial Piety, and conduct a more systematic Confucian moral education for students. Let the students "cultivate the ten righteousness to rule the seven emotions", the ten righteous ones, "fatherly kindness, filial piety, brotherhood, brotherhood, husband righteousness, women listening, changhui, young shun, junren, and subject loyalty"; the seven lovers, "joy, anger, sorrow, fear, love, evil, desire" also.

Yin Zhen ran schools, preached, taught, solved puzzles, and enlightened and indoctrinated in the land of Sangzi, "raising schools and gradually moving their customs.".

The Nanyi border people in the barbaric land subtly accepted the civilization, morality and customs of the Central Plains at that time.

Yin Zhen's personal deeds, words and deeds, filial piety to her parents and brothers, love for her brothers, sisters and nephews, as well as loyalty to her duties, making friends and trustworthiness, and being humble and kind to the people, have all been recognized by local officials and township party public opinion as models of "filial piety and honesty", and their reputation has spread far and wide.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, there was no imperial examination system, the implementation of the system of "filial piety and honesty", Yin Zhen was Xu Shengao disciple and a famous teacher, not only a rich and noble son, but also had the virtue of enlightenment and enlightenment, the good deeds of filial piety, and had a high reputation in counties and counties, so the magistrates were recommended to the imperial court for their proficiency in scriptures and were selected to enter the discipline of literature.

Those who have established great things in the past will not only have supernatural talents, but also have the will to persevere.

After Yin Zhen was hired by the imperial court, he first served as a Shangshu Lang and then an official to jingzhou.

When Yin Zhen was appointed as the assassin of Jingzhou, his rank was originally 600 stones, but the imperial court gave him 2,000 stones, which is like today's county magistrate enjoying the treatment of provincial governor, which can be described as a humble weight and a reward.

This is inseparable from Yin Zhen's cultivation of "self-cultivation, family unity, governance of the country, and peace in the world" in Confucianism, and the Jingwei wizards who rule officials with Confucianism.

Yin Zhen resigned from his official duties and returned to his hometown, returned to his old business, and renamed the original academy "Wu Ben Tang", committed to educating people. He died in 162 AD and was buried in WuBentang at the age of 84.

Yin Zhen's travels have an important influence on Chinese history, and many later history books have recorded Yin Zhen, and authoritative dictionaries such as the modern "dictionary of Chinese famous names" and "Cihai" also have special articles.

Yin Zhen and the contemporaneous Sheren and Sheng Lan were called "Han Sanxian" by posterity, and the Han Sanxian Ancestral Hall in Zunyi district commemorates these three sages.

In order to commemorate him during the Tang Dynasty, in the sixteenth year of Zhenguan, he named his birthplace Zhenzhou, which was changed many times, and after the Song Dynasty, it was mostly Zhenzhou and belonged to Bozhou.

Later, in the 32nd year of the Republic of China (1943 AD), the then Guizhou provincial government "specially submitted to the quasi-central government, divided a part of Zheng'an County, and set up a new county, called Daozhen County", which continues to this day.

Daozhen became the only county in the country named after a person, in honor of this great Guizhou education pioneer and humanistic ancestor Yin Zhen (whose character Daozhen).
