The Olympic village dormitory hung a banner imitating the famous anti-Japanese general Lee Shun-chen, which caused controversy, and the South Korean delegation withdrew

After the South Korean Olympic delegation hung a banner imitating the famous anti-Japanese general Lee Shun-chan in the dormitory of the Tokyo Olympic Village, according to the news of south Korea's Nusis News Agency on the 17th, the Korean Sports Association removed the relevant banners at the request of the International Olympic Committee.

On the 13th of this month, the Korean Sports Association hung a Korean banner reading "Solidarity and Support from 50 Million Citizens" outside the dormitory of the Tokyo Olympic Village, where the South Korean delegation stayed. In this regard, Japan's "Tokyo Sports" said on the 15th that this sentence is very similar to the famous saying left by Li Shunchen when he confronted the Japanese Navy, "There are still 12 ships in the minister". Japanese media also described the banner as an "anti-Japanese banner," calling the South Korean delegation's actions "surprising."

Later, Japanese far-right groups demonstrated by holding the old Japanese military flag , the Rising Sun Flag , in front of the residence of the South Korean delegation.

As the situation continued to expand, the IOC was also involved. The Neusis News Agency quoted the Korean Sports Association as saying on the 17th that the relevant people of the International Olympic Committee asked for the removal of the banner, saying that the words used on the banner may be reminiscent of the generals who participated in the war, which violates article 50 of the Olympic Charter. At the same time, the Korean Sports Association said that it actively explained its position on the banner to the International Olympic Committee and raised strong objections to the cheering of the "Rising Sun Flag".

In response, the IOC said that the use of the "rising sun flag" in the Olympic venues also applies to Article 50 of the Olympic Charter, and (with the South Korean side) mutually agreed to remove the banner outside the dormitory of the South Korean delegation.

According to the Korean Sports Association, according to the consultation, in order to allow the players to concentrate on the game, there will be no objection (to the removal of the banner), and the International Olympic Committee will also ban the display of the "rising sun flag" in all Olympic venues to avoid political problems.
