On the eve of the Martyrs' Memorial Day, Professor Qin Jianmin, who lives in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, at the age of seventy, plans to make another trip to Wenying Park in the city center, where the former site of Shanxi Provincial No. 1 Middle School (now Taiyuan No. 5 Middle School) is the alma mater of martyr Gao Junyu, his "second grandfather" and an early member of the CPC, and where Gao Junyu, He Chang, Peng Zhen, and other revolutionary martyrs and revolutionaries of the older generation first engaged in revolutionary activities and established the Shanxi Party organization.
Although he had never met Gao Junyu, the spirit of this ancestor accompanied Qin Jianmin throughout his life. "Although the life of martyr Gao Junyu was short, the afterglow left behind was so long. He is my relative, but also a beacon of my spirit, supporting me to climb the peak of scientific research. ”
Qin Jianmin is a retired professor and doctoral supervisor of Taiyuan University of Technology. After graduating from junior high school in 1969, he worked as a worker in a third-line factory, insisted on self-study, and was recommended by the factory to study at a university and stay on campus to teach, and successively obtained a master's degree and a doctorate, and was sent by the state to study in Germany for further study four times. After each training, he returned to China on schedule and insisted on developing in China.
"As a descendant of martyrs, I always feel a sense of mission in my heart. Although the conditions abroad are good, my roots are at home, and the stage of my struggle is at home. The revolutionary cause for which the ancestors fought all their lives is not yet complete, and I should take their torch and continue their unfinished business. ”
After returning to China, Qin Jianmin combined the knowledge learned abroad with the needs of national construction, and devoted himself to research and exploration in the field of automated detection of hydrological information. He led the scientific research team to take the lead in proposing a new method for detecting ice thickness and under ice water level based on the differences in the physical characteristics of different media, and based on this, he developed an ice thickness sensor with independent intellectual property rights, which was actually applied to The scientific investigation of China's Antarctic and Arctic Poles, as well as the automatic detection of winter ice conditions in many rivers such as the Yellow River and Heilongjiang.

Ice detection needs to be carried out in a cold field environment, for nearly 20 years, every winter, Qin Jianmin led students to run in Heilongjiang Mohe, Yellow River Inner Mongolia River, Fenhe River and other places, in the outdoor -20 °C ~ -30 °C river surface installation, debugging ice detection equipment, and for four or five consecutive months to detect changes in river ice.
Recalling the scene of the field test that year, Qin Jianmin said with emotion: "At the beginning, I did experiments in the yellow river head road, spent the night at the hydrological station, and relied on fire to make my own heating at night to heat up. Sleeping until midnight, the charcoal fire was extinguished, and everyone froze to cover their bodies with several layers of large quilts, or shivered cold. The students had to huddle together to keep warm and survive the cold night. ”
Qin Jianmin conducted field tests on experimental sensors for Antarctica in the frozen Fenhe River.
The arduous scientific research process is the revolutionary past of the martyr Gao Junyu who encouraged Qin Jianmin. And he also used a special method to express his respect and gratitude to his ancestors. In 2008, qin Jianmin presided over a scientific research project on ice conditions automatic detection site, which happened to be located at the fork hydrological station on the opposite bank of Fenglingdi Village in Loufu County, Gao Junyu's hometown.
He said that after completing the field experiment work every time, he would lead the graduate students to visit the Fenglingdi Village, the hometown of the martyr Gao Junyu, and tell the students the revolutionary story of Gao Junyu. "The students were particularly touched to hear Gao Junyu's deeds, and no matter how bitter the scientific research conditions were, they never complained."
"To be honest, the conditions were tough, but we enjoyed it. Because like our revolutionary ancestors, we also have faith and goals, and we strive for the development of the country. With a little progress, those bitternesses turned sweet! ”
