24 October marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the Charter of the United Nations in 1945. This day is designated as "United Nations Day". Every year, to celebrate United Nations Day, concerts are usually held in the United Nations General Assembly Hall. This year's "United Nations Day" concert was hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations. Let's go with Du Jia, a special correspondent of UN News, to enjoy the grandeur of this concert.
The annual "United Nations Day" concert was held this year at United Nations Headquarters in New York as scheduled.
As the world begins to gradually recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 concert aims to call for greater international cooperation for the benefit of all countries and peoples to create a more peaceful and prosperous future for all.
On Thursday, October 21, at 7 p.m. EST, the United Nations Day Concert kicked off at the United Nations General Assembly Hall.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres was present at the concert. In his speech before the performance began, he said: "Music reflects the diversity and uniqueness of cultures around the world, and at the same time is a language that bridges all differences. Music brings people from different backgrounds together in harmony to create timeless, beautiful and inspiring masterpieces. ”
Guterres said the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict, poverty, hunger and the ongoing climate change catastrophe remind us that our world is far from perfect. The only way forward for humanity and the planet is to strengthen solidarity.
Guterres: "The last 20 months have been an extremely difficult time for the human family, and we even feel isolated and helpless. At tonight's concert, let's watch, listen and be inspired together as a whole. Let us renew our commitment to the Charter of the United Nations and to revisit the core values that have given life to it over the past 76 years — peace, dignity and prosperity for all".
This year's UNITED Nations Day concerts are in a mixed format, with live performances and pre-recorded programmes. Due to the epidemic, only a small part of the audience attended the concert to watch the performance, and the seat spacing was maintained.

The concert program is diverse and innovative, from classical sopranos and symphonic performances to K-Pop stars, presenting an artistic feast for live and online audiences. Famous violinists Angela and Jennifer Chun and soprano Shin Young-woo performed live in the Assembly Hall, while well-known soprano Kim Young-mi, Gao Yang Philharmonic Orchestra, pianist Yang Yong-woo and Korean girl music group Aespa recorded the performance in advance and played it live.
In his speech, Abdullah Shahid, President of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, highlighted the significance of the United Nations for young people and the world of tomorrow.
Abdullah Shahid: "As we celebrate UN Day today, it is quite possible that somewhere in the world, a future UN Secretary-General or a future President of the UN General Assembly is watching us and is being encouraged by all the work that the UN has done. Let us work hard to ignite the flame of hope in the hearts of every child, to give them confidence in a better future, and let us strengthen multilateral cooperation and let the flag of the United Nations fly high. ”
On September 20, the Bulletproof Youth League participated in and performed at the important event "Moment of Sustainable Development", which was held at the beginning of the high-level debate of the United Nations General Assembly. As always, their presence and participation caused a huge response both live and on the Internet.

This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of South Korea's accession to the United Nations. This is one reason why South Korea is actively trying to host the United Nations Day concert. Cho Hyun, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the United Nations, also emphasized the influence of young people in his concert speech.
Zhao Xian" We are very honored to host this year's United Nations Day Concert. Not long ago, South Korea's bulletproof youth group performed a show at the United Nations General Assembly. Their performances have taught 33 million young people around the world about the concept of the Sustainable Development Goals, which is a remarkable achievement. But it seemed to violate one of the UN Secretary-General's principles on gender equality, as the music group consisted entirely of boys. To correct this bias, we will present today a musical group composed entirely of girls for you to enjoy. ”
The theme of this year's UNITED Nations Day concert is "Rebuilding Peace and Prosperity Together". In his message, Guterres stressed that the United Nations was created after the catastrophic conflict and is a bulwark of hope for global solidarity. He called on the people to perpetuate that hope and to realize the ideals of peace, prosperity, equal opportunity and human rights for all.
