First, the lack of water during hibernation leads to death
During hibernation, regularly check the turtle's own and environmental conditions. For the water turtle, if it is hibernating in the pool, pay attention to whether the turtle pond has leakage and other phenomena, especially some outer pools, wind and sun, easy to age, it is easy to leak, if not detected in time, the consequences are unimaginable. If there is a tortoise, the turtle box should check whether there is a water basin, whether the water basin has water, if not, it is necessary to place the water basin and add water to prevent the turtle from illness or death due to lack of water.
The turtle hibernates just without eating and not moving, but also needs water and humidity. In the wild, turtles will hibernate in the moist soil or mud ponds on the shore to maintain the moisture of the skin and prevent the body from dehydrating. In captivity, the turtle body can be covered with damp sand, coconut soil, water moss or wet towel during hibernation, and the humidity of the bedding needs to be checked regularly, and the humidity is regularly sprayed to maintain the humidity so that the turtle does not dry up during hibernation.
Second, illness or physical weakness leads to death
For some old, weak, sick and disabled turtles, due to their own physical weakness, hibernation time is too long, they can not withstand such a long time of not eating or drinking, if the body does not get timely replenishment of energy, it will die. You know, although the metabolism of the turtle is low during hibernation, it still consumes energy. These old, weak, sick and crippled turtles themselves are weak in physique, even sick, cannot withstand the test of hunger and cold, and are extremely prone to death. Therefore, for these old, weak and disabled turtles, it is recommended to take a warming overwintering method.
Third, improper management (improper feeding) death For some northern regions where the temperature continues to be very low, after the turtle enters hibernation, there is no way to replenish energy, so many farmers will feed a lot of food before the turtle hibernates, supplement nutrition, but if the feeding is improper, it will cause hidden diseases in the digestive system of the turtle, which may cause the turtle to sleep for a long time. For the northern region, intestinal cleansing before hibernation is an important process.
For southern regions such as Guangxi, Guangdong, the temperature is warm and cold, and the turtle repeatedly wakes up and hibernates. So can you feed for energy? It is recommended to pay more attention to the local weather forecast, when the weather is warm, such as when the minimum temperature reaches more than 20 degrees in the three days before and after, you can properly feed some digestible top food, but do not feed too much. In addition, due to the relatively large temperature difference in winter and the low temperature, some turtle friends do not pay attention to the temperature difference of the water when changing the water, and the turtle is very easy to cause colds and pneumonia, if there is no timely treatment or no use of the right medicine, it will soon die.
