The breeding area is mainly in the southwest mountainous area, north to the Qinling Mountains at an altitude of 1400-2500 meters above sea level in evergreen broad-leaved forests or bamboo forests. It is an occasional migratory transit bird in Wuhan, where there were no previous observation records.

Yangchun Lake Park welcomes back "Nanjing Duck"
In Wuhan, it has disappeared for 50 years, and the central urban area has been monitored for the first time
Yangtze River Daily News (reporter Peng Yuying) on the 20th, in Yangchun Lake Park, Hongshan District, Wuhan City, a group of primary school students under the leadership of bird watching teachers found a rare water bird - the figure of cotton. This is the first monitoring record of this species of birds in the park in the central urban area of Wuhan.
At 9:00 a.m., Yangchun Lake Park welcomed 800 bird-loving volunteers who walked into Yangchun Lake Park, learned bird knowledge and on-site bird watching, etc., to enter nature, integrate into nature and protect nature.
The Yangtze River Daily reporter accompanied the bird watching station, and bird watching enthusiasts have set up telescopes and cameras to pay close attention to the bird situation in the surrounding wetlands. Suddenly, bird watching enthusiast Yao Bo said in surprise: "Cotton skulls have been found, this bird is not common!" The Yangtze River Daily reporter saw in the telescope that in a piece of water not far away, there was a small duck with a white head and a black bill, which was the world's thinnest water duck - cotton. Yan Jun said that April is the breeding season of cotton, and they are likely to breed in Yangchun Lake Park, and if a breeding area can be formed here, it will be a very meaningful thing. In addition to the cotton, a variety of birds such as egrets, night herons, pond herons, cattleback herons, and black water pheasants were also monitored at the scene.
