According to the official micro-news of the Xinxiang County Public Security Bureau, on July 24, the Qiliying police station learned in its work that someone had caught a gecko in a local village. After learning the information, the Qiliying police station immediately took action, arrested the criminal suspect Zhang Mou at the scene, and seized 152 geckos caught with tools.

After investigation, Zhang mou listened to the legend that geckos can cure arthritis, so he had the idea of catching geckos to cure diseases. Subsequently, Zhang used the method of disabled night lighting to hunt geckos in the hunting area and during the hunting period. According to judicial identification, the 152 geckos caught by Zhang are all webbed geckos of the family Geckoidae with lepidoptera lizards, which are "beneficial terrestrial wild animals protected by the state or of important economic and scientific research value", referred to as "three have" animals.

The reporter's search found that according to the "List of Beneficial Terrestrial Wild Animals Protected by the State or of Important Economic and Scientific Research Value", the erchous gecko, the Chinese gecko, the lead mountain gecko, and the webless gecko are among the reptiles of the "three haves" protected animals.

On August 13, Zhang was taken by the Xinxiang County Public Security Bureau to release on guarantee pending further investigation.

The reporter combed and found that there are still many cases of criminals for illegally capturing webbed geckos. According to the China Judgment Documents Network, on April 14 this year, Li Moumou of Huang County, Henan Province, was sentenced to 10 months in prison and suspended for 1 year by the Daming County People's Court of Hebei Province for illegally capturing 185 webbed geckos; on April 2 this year, Zhou Mou of Juancheng County, Shandong Province, was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a suspended sentence of 1 year by the Peony District People's Court of Heze City, Shandong Province, for illegally capturing 462 webbed geckos; on November 20, 2018, Zhou Mou was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a suspended sentence of 1 year for illegal hunting. The People's Court of Shenqiu County, Henan Province, convicted Ren of Shangcai County, Zhumadian, of hunting more than 700 webbed geckos and guilty of illegal hunting, and sentenced him to one year in prison, suspended for one year.

It is reported that in addition to geckos, common sparrows, frogs, toads, snakes, weasels, hedgehogs also belong to the "three haves" animals, although not precious and endangered animals, but also protected by relevant laws.
