China News Service reporter Xing Liyu

The meeting to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution was solemnly held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the 9th. As one of the representatives of the descendants of the ancestors of the Xinhai Revolution, Sun Yali, president of the Sun Yat-sen Cultural Foundation, was greatly encouraged after attending the meeting.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen once said: "To restore the status of a nation, we must first restore the spirit of the nation." "Sun Yali said in an interview with China News Agency that it was precisely because of this inspiration that she had the courage to initiate the establishment of the Sun Yat-sen Cultural Foundation in 2016." General Secretary Xi Jinping also talked about Dr. Sun Yat-sen's words at the conference, and I feel very encouraged."

Born in Hong Kong, Sun Yali is the great-niece of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and her great-grandfather is Sun Mei, the brother of Sun Yat-sen. After the death of his grandfather and parents, his father Sun Man and his brother Sun Qian were raised by Sun Yat-sen and provided for teaching.

Inherited by her family style, Sun Yali was happy to seek knowledge and innovation in her youth, and she studied in Australia and the United States, and founded an international film production and distribution company and a film library after moving to Los Angeles. In the early 1990s, Sun Yali, who had worked and lived overseas for many years, gave up her job at the Australian Film Bureau and the opportunity to become a diplomat, and returned to China to participate in the production of Chinese films, hoping to use her many years of experience abroad to contribute to Chinese films and take the lead in distributing Chinese films overseas.

Recalling what she saw when she returned to China, Sun Yali admitted that she did feel that economic development was relatively backward. As she spent more time in China, she also witnessed the country's rapid development. "In the past decade or so, I have been very pleased to see the development and changes in many aspects of the country," Sun Yali said, such as China's rare contribution to poverty reduction, the rapid development of urban construction and the rapid development of science and technology.

"I think we can do better in our cultural education and spiritual civilization," Sun Yali said, cultural education is the foundation of the national spirit. Making a modest contribution to the dissemination, development and inheritance of Chinese culture has become Sun Yali's thoughts.

In 2006, Sun Yali, as one of the representatives of the Sun family, came to Beijing to participate in the commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the birth of Sun Yat-sen, which was also her first time to participate in the national Sun Yat-sen commemoration activities, and began to think: As a descendant of the Sun family, how to exert his energy and continue to bring positive impact to society?

With constant thinking, Sun Yali studied more about the spirit of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and was especially inspired by Dr. Sun Yat-sen's words about restoring the national spirit. In November 2016, near the 150th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen's birth, the "Sun Yat-sen Cultural Foundation" initiated by her was officially established.

The foundation has also experienced the hardships of the initial period, and Sun Yali is grateful to her friends who have been supporting the foundation. She said that many volunteers have nothing to do with "Sun Yat-sen", they do not seek fame and fortune, but just want to contribute to Chinese culture together.

Since its preparatory phase in 2014, the Foundation has carried out a number of projects such as environmental and wildlife conservation, education, film and television media and support for women, witnessed the prohibition of ivory trading, and actively participated in supporting academic forums on Sun Yat-sen's thought and culture. Since 2017, the Foundation has established the "Sun Yat-Sen Bo Ai Award", and has cooperated with two famous film festivals to support and encourage outstanding film and television works with the spirit of fraternity, so that China's fraternity spirit and culture can be widely disseminated abroad.

Recently, the Sun Yat-sen Cultural Foundation, as one of the organizers, participated in the hosting of two activities on October 2 and 6, "Two Families, Two Countries, One Locomotive - Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution" and "Railway Dream, Chinese Dream - Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution". These two events were held simultaneously online and offline in China and the UK and attracted attention.

Subsequently, Sun Yali, as a guest of the visiting group for the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, began a series of trips in Beijing and Guangzhou. Sun Yali said that this year is the 155th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, and the country is in a period of rapid development, which has realized the ideals of its predecessors in many aspects, and also faces many challenges in the world. Looking back on history, we should learn from the spirit of our predecessors, develop industry, carry out social construction, pay attention to the construction of spiritual civilization and develop China's soft power, and work together for the future of the Chinese nation, Chinese culture and the country.

"The real inheritance is not to talk about Sun Yat-sen's words, but to do practical things in their respective posts." Sun Yali said. (End)
