Fearing damage to the company's reputation, Facebook threatened to prevent the launch of the American drama "Doomsday Machine" through litigation. The American drama is based on the book An Ugly Truth, which exposes Facebook's misguided practices on issues such as misinformation, hate speech and user safety.

《An Ugly Truth》

The show, played by Claire Foy, plays Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and will deal with the chaos surrounding misinformation during the 2016 election, as well as recent controversies such as the XCheck program, which allows celebrities and other high-profile figures to bypass content moderation.

Before filming began, Facebook was threatening production company Anonymous Content through litigation. Mathew Rosengart, a lawyer who helped lift Sweetie out of her guardianship, sent a letter to Dawn Olmstead, the CEO of Anonymous Content, detailing the legal action Facebook might take if there were any misrepresentations or exaggerations about the company on the show, Deadline reported.

As stated in the letter obtained by Deadline, Rosengart said, "The First Amendment does not protect false statements or descriptions that are knowingly committed — or statements or descriptions that disregard the facts — even with respect to public figures."
