Alberto Grimaldi, producer of "The Golden Trio" and "Gangsters of New York," died at the age of 95. Grimaudi's son, Maurizio Grimaudi, confirmed the fact of his death to foreign media, adding that his father died of natural causes.
Born on 28 March 1925 in Naples, Italy, Grimaudi founded his own production company, P.E.A., in 1961. Grimaudi's first feature film was the Spanish Western The Shadow of Zorro, which was released in 1962. In 1964, Grimaudi made his first Italian Western, The Two Marshals. P.E.A. was active until the early 1980s, often co-producing with Spain and West Germany, and the company was known for producing low-budget action films.
In 1965, Grimaudi first collaborated with Sergio Leone on the international co-production Twilight Double Dart, starring Clint Eastwood. The following year, the two also collaborated, with Grimaudi producing Leone's epic Italian Western, The Golden Three, which grossed $25 million and made Eastwood famous.
Other works include: 1972, Marlon Brando starring In The Last Tango in Paris, Sophia Rowland in I, Don Quixote, 1976, and Dancing Nation in 1986.
His last film was 2002's Martin Scorsese's Gangster New York, which starred Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cameron Diaz and Liam Neeson, and received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
During his 40-year career, Grimaudi has worked as a producer for more than 80 films in Europe and the United States.
