What are the Four Blacks? That is, the skin is black, the flesh is black, the bones are black, and the internal organs are all black. At first glance, many people will think that this is not the same as the ordinary five black chickens? Because their feathers also look black in color.
In fact, this is the subtle difference between the four black chickens and the five black chickens. If you look closely, you will find that the reason why this four black chicken is not called five black chickens is because the color of its feathers is not strictly speaking black, but the color of black with peacock blue. So, strictly speaking, it's not a five-black chicken.
However, in addition to the difference in color, there are several differences between this four-black chicken and the ordinary five-black chicken.
First of all, this four-black chicken produces more eggs than the ordinary five-black chicken. The average annual egg production of the five black chickens is about 160, while the average annual egg production of the four black chickens is as high as 190. And not only is the egg production high, but the hatching rate is also higher than that of ordinary five black chickens.
In addition, this four-black chicken is more suitable for mountain stocking. It grows naturally in the mountains at altitudes of 300 to 2200 meters, and can easily survive the winter in the snow at minus 30 degrees without any artificial assistance.
Moreover, due to the remote and ravine origin of this four-black chicken, this is very beneficial to maintain its purebred breeding. Therefore, the purity of this variety is very high and it is almost unaffected by exotic varieties. Therefore, it is also known as the purest surviving black-boned chicken.
In 2009, the chicken was included in the "Yunnan Provincial Inventory for the Protection of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources", and later in 2011, it was named "Yunnan Six Famous Chickens".
In 2012, this four black chicken was officially certified as a "geographical indication certification trademark" by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and three years later, in 2015, it was approved by the Ministry of Agriculture as a registered and protected variety of the national agricultural product geographical indication.
At this point, this four black chicken can be described as full of honor, it is the famous Shiojin black bone chicken.
The Yanjin black-boned chicken is named after its origin and main production in Yanjin County, Yunnan Province. It is slightly larger than the average five-black chicken. Adult roosters weigh 2.5 to 3 kg and hens weigh 1.5 to 2 kg. Moreover, its growth cycle is also longer, generally taking at least 200 days to reach sexual maturity.
However, it is precisely because of its slow growth that its physique is stronger, its flesh is firmer and more tender, and its taste and flavor are better.
According to statistics, the current stock of Yanjin black-bone chicken is about 2 million. However, thanks to the increasing pursuit of green food and the consumption concept of purebred native chickens by modern people, in recent years, the breeding of Yanjin black bone chicken has also developed vigorously.
