According to foreign media reports on the 5th, the Libyan authorities released Saadi Gaddafi, the son of former leader Muammar Gaddafi, who had flown to Istanbul, Turkey.

After the overthrow of the Qaddafi regime in 2011, Saadi fled to Niger, where he was extradited back to Libya in 2014 and has been held in Tripoli.
Official sources say Saadi's release was driven by negotiations that included senior tribal figures and Prime Minister Debeba, Libya's new national unity government. Another source said the talks also involved former Interior Minister Fathi Bashaha.
Born in 1973, Saadi Gaddafi is a professional footballer who was the libyan league's top scorer in 2001–02 and became an Italian club player from 2003–2007, but only played twice during that time. Saadi is jailed on charges of committing crimes against protesters in 2011 and murdering Libyan football coach Bashir Rajani in 2005. In 2018, the court dropped the murder charges against him.
