"I don't think as an actor, you don't have to have that high academic qualifications, but you can't cheat."

In response to the recent incidents of some artists' academic qualifications being fraudulent and traffic fraud, Wei Song, member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, artistic director of the Shanghai Opera House, and dean of the Conservatory of Music of Shanghai Normal University, said in an exclusive interview with the surging reporter that these incidents were also one of the key points of his attention during the two sessions of the National People's Congress this year.

In Wei Song's view, whether it is academic qualification fraud or traffic fraud, it involves the integrity of artists. As an actor, it is not necessary to have a high degree, but more to pay attention to the cultivation of some professional abilities in performance and the shaping of the quality of artists.

"Take Chinese opera as an example, for example, some famous characters in Peking Opera, who have been in the opera team since childhood, trained by the class master, may not have any academic qualifications, but they can become real famous characters." Wei Song said that performance practice and academic education are still not the same, but regardless of academic qualifications, they cannot be faked.

Why are there frequent incidents of artist fraud, and how to solve them? This is also something that Wei Song has been thinking about recently. "Today's actors, unlike our generation, are signing a company, and the company treats them as treasures, as cash cows, whatever it takes, and spoils them all." Wei Song said that at present, a big problem is that there is no management mechanism for them, and they also lack education and training in terms of quality and morality.

In Wei Song's view, the biggest disadvantage caused by the above phenomenon is the negative impact on teenagers. "Because many teenagers regard these artists as idols, they should play an exemplary role for the majority of teenagers." He said that therefore, relevant parties should consider establishing a management mechanism for these artists and strengthening their moral education training.
