China News Service reporter Li Chun
"For our thousands of veterans, 'one sound, one life', is not only a brand engraved on the body, but also an instinct flowing in the blood." Talking about the faith and pursuit of Chinese veterans, Song Xi, a full-time counselor in the Student Work Department of Peking University, said.
At the press conference held by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee on the 2nd, three representatives of retired soldiers, including Song Xi, met and exchanged views with Chinese and foreign reporters to talk about their military career and life experience after retiring from the military. Responsibility, self-improvement, transformation, behind the three keywords is a different life of Chinese veterans.
Responsibilities: Veterans work as veterans
"As a veteran, there is a natural sense of responsibility and mission in the work of veterans." Li Xiangwen, who has 30 years of military experience, transferred to local work in 2018 and is currently a member of the party group and deputy director of the Liaocheng Veterans Affairs Bureau in Shandong Province. In the past three years, he has traveled to 136 township service stations in the city, and has visited more than 1,000 military families and families of retired soldiers.
"In the past three years, the work of veterans has changed a lot." Li Xiangwen said that the organizational management system, work operation system, policy and regulation system have been continuously improved and improved, and substantial results have been achieved in job placement, pension preferential treatment, care and support, and accurate services, which have solved many specific problems and have also been recognized by the majority of veterans.
He further introduced that the Liaocheng Veterans Affairs Bureau provided loan discounts for more than 380 veterans who started their own businesses through the Employment and Entrepreneurship Support Fund this year; in the first half of the year, 21 special job fairs for veterans were held consecutively, providing jobs for more than 1,200 veterans.
"Our work is still constantly improving and perfecting, and there are inevitably some shortcomings and weaknesses." Li Xiangwen also pointed out that the grass-roots staff come from different positions and work shorter hours, and the grasp and understanding of the policy are not accurate enough, and it is necessary to improve the quality of the business as soon as possible. "That's the next step."
Self-improvement: Let China's software infrastructure no longer be controlled by people
In 1991, Kong Jinzhu was admitted to the National University of Defense Technology and served as the deputy director of the Domestic Basic Software Engineering Research Center of the National University of Defense Technology. Since 2002, when he was a research assistant, he has been committed to the research and development of the core of the domestic server operating system, determined to create an operating system that belongs to the Chinese.
In 2016, Kong Jinzhu took off the military uniform he had worn for 25 years and entered Kirin Software Co., Ltd. as a technology leader to invest in the construction of China's "CPU + Chinese operating system".
"After four years of hard work, my team and I finally developed a domestic server operating system, which is named after the traditional mythical beast 'Qilin' in Chinese mythology."
Kong Jinzhu often travels to the R&D centers and user sites of Kirin Software across the country to promote the development of domestic operating systems and industrial ecology. He said that in the future, he will continue to uphold the fine traditions and excellent style of military personnel, innovate independently, stand on their own feet, and build the core strength of China's operating system.
Transformation: "Youth is to burn"
In 2015, the 21-year-old Song Xi enrolled in the army from college and served in the Marine Corps of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and the amphibious female reconnaissance squadron was the first female reconnaissance detachment of the army. From December 2016 to July 2017, she accompanied the 25th escort formation of the Chinese Navy to the Gulf of Aden to perform escort missions, and returned to Peking University to continue her studies after retiring in 2017.
Ordinary people may think that that thrilling escort experience is Song Xi's most unforgettable military memory. "In fact, what impressed me the most was the hard days of training in the Marine Corps with my comrades- Song Xi said that the reason why this group of young female Marines trained hard was to be able to answer the first "to" in various urgent, difficult, dangerous and heavy tasks.
From the "proud son of heaven" of the top academy to the ordinary soldier in the army, behind the identity transformation is the transformation and sublimation experienced by Song Xi. This year, the "Little Mengxin" of the Chinese veteran group has changed his identity again and become a counselor teacher at Peking University.
As a "former soldier's sister", Song Xi also encouraged those college students who harbored the dream of joining the army to prove their dreams with truly grounded practice and realize the value of life with practical actions to defend their families and the country. "Youth is all about burning." (End)
