As we all know, human consciousness is often seen as the most significant sign that distinguishes humans from animals. Transmitting conscious mental life is a very important function of the brain.

It is true that consciousness is a significant function of the brain, but brain science and psychological research also tells us that unconscious mental activity is also a powerful driver of our minds and behaviors. The founder of psychoanalysis, the great psychologist Freud, took the lead in bringing the research of the subconscious field into people's field of vision, and constructed his own unique psychological theories such as "the interaction of the original self and the self", "consciousness and subconscious" and so on.

In Monica's case, on a conscious level, her academic pressures led her to make the decision to transfer. As the counseling slowly deepened, the motives and desires hidden in the subconscious gradually revealed, and the deep guilt of her sister in her heart was an important reason for her to leave Harvard. When the counselor has a deep spiritual dialogue with her, feeling the "difficulty" and "pain" in her heart, she gains the strength to accompany her. In the end, she made her own choice from the bottom of her heart and did her best for her goal.

According to psychoanalytic theory, psychological confusion and mental disorders are the imbalance of the "original self-self-superego" and the by-product of excessive depression or dissipation of mental energy. As a psychological counselor, it is not enough to just see the superficial problems, discuss things on the facts, and do things according to experience. Through the consciousness to go deep into the ocean of the subconscious, work with the inquirer to find the crux of the problem, and lead to the conscious level of analysis and understanding. Only in this way can we achieve the cultivation of potential manifestation and allow the personality of the inquirer to be newly integrated and perfected.

<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" data-track="18" > How "virtual work" in psychological counseling is reflected</h1>

In psychological counseling, if direct persuasion is "real work", then indirect inspiration can be called "virtual work". The two are often not mutually exclusive, but complementary.

In Monica's reflections on the question of whether to stay at Harvard, her parents repeatedly asked her to stay at Harvard, and I once "joined" their cries, which made Monica feel frustrated. None of us sensed her pain of "cutting and messing up," so the more we urged Monica to stay at Harvard, the more reluctant she was to stay at Harvard.

This practice is a manifestation of "real work". Later, I no longer took the initiative to talk to Monica about her Harvard stay problem, but inspired her to think for herself, which made her realize that it was the guilt of her sister that affected her emotions. The roots were dug out, and she willingly decided to stay at Harvard without any persuasion from me. This corresponds to a sentence in "Red Dream": Heart disease must be cured by heart medicine, and the bell is still tied to the ringer.

From helping Monica to make a careful study plan without mentioning any plan, from making decisions for her to pushing her to make her own decisions, I actually took a path of "from yang to yin" and "hitting reality with falsehood". In the end, my "inaction" strategy prompted Monica to make a "promising" move and achieve the desired consultation results. This is the "virtual work" of psychological counseling.

unscramble:

In Freud's psychoanalytic theory, the spiritual consciousness of man is divided into three layers of unconsciousness: conscious, pre-conscious, and unconscious, such as repressed and unconscious desires, secret thoughts, and fears in the depths of the heart. The main unconscious situations are: (1) it is not really conscious, such as seeing and hearing but not hearing; (2) it has been conscious but not associated with other fragments of consciousness, and thus lost in the past; (3) consciousness of individual situations is organized in a larger fragment of conscious activity without specifically showing its existence. The word has two meanings. One refers to people's inability to be aware of the true causes and motives of some of their actions, and the other refers to the fact that there is an underlying mental activity going on underneath people's waking consciousness. This potential psychological activity, although people are unaware, seriously affects people's external behavior. In the relevant literature of our country, the word unconscious has two translations: "unconscious" and "subconscious". Both translations are correct in their own emphasis on one meaning. As hao bin, a well-known psychologist, said: "Those unconscious unconscious may be transformed into our destiny." The unconscious affects our choices about careers, who we marry, who we are healthy about, and everything in our lives. Freud believed that the unconscious had an active role in exerting pressure and influence on a person's character and behavior. (Freud applied the principle of determinism in his inquiry into the spiritual realm of man, arguing that things must be caused.) Seemingly trivial things, such as dreams, slips of the tongue, and clerical errors, are determined by underlying causes in the brain, but are manifested in a disguised form. From this, Freud proposed a hypothesis about unconscious mental states, dividing consciousness into three levels: consciousness, pre-consciousness [the surface of the water in the "iceberg theory," or strictly the dividing line] and the unconscious. In the case of this article, Monica's deep guilt for her sister is an important reason for her to leave Harvard, and I think this is the reason why Monica made the decision to transfer, on the surface it is a problem of learning pressure, but in fact, the subconscious is affecting her.

We say, what is psychology? Psychology is the function of the brain, the reflection of objective things in the human brain. According to this nature of the mind, does the unconscious exist in the human brain? Here, I need to explain to you that the mental apparatus of the unconscious, the preconscious, and the subconscious is not anatomical concept, but conceptual. Freud already knew that scientific research on the nervous system had confirmed that mental activity and brain function were closely related, but he was reluctant to link the mental zoning wheel to the physiological functions of the brain simply and mechanically, such as describing consciousness as a function of the cerebral cortex and unconsciousness as a function of the lower cerebral cortex. Freud said: "There is still a gap between conscious and unconscious mental activity and their anatomical positioning, and this gap needs to be filled later, but this is not the work that psychologists should do" We'll see. But the theory of the unconscious has profoundly affected our lives, our choices about careers, who we marry, who we are healthy to, and everything in our lives. But Freud firmly believed that the unconscious was completely unobservable and understandable.

So what is the role of the personality structure of the self-superego? It is a psychoanalytic concept proposed by Freud to explain the formation and interrelationship of the conscious and subconscious minds. The "id" (completely subconscious) is the most primitive desire of man to satisfy instinctive impulses, such as hunger, anger, sexual desire, etc., representing desire, inhibited by consciousness, located at the bottom of the personality structure, following the principle of hedonism; the "self" (mostly conscious) is the psychological component of the personality, which is gradually differentiated from the original self and is located in the middle layer of the personality structure. Its role is mainly to regulate the contradiction between the ego and the superego, which regulates the id and is subject to the superego on the other, which follows the principles of reality and is responsible for dealing with the affairs of the real world in a reasonable way to meet the requirements of the ego; the "superego" (partially conscious) is the regulator in the personality structure, governed by the perfect principle, and belongs to the moral part of the personality structure. It is located at the highest level of the personality structure, is the moralized self, internalized by social norms, ethics, and values, and its formation is the result of socialization. The superego follows moral principles, which serve three purposes: one is to suppress the impulse of the self, the other is to monitor the self, and the third is to pursue the state of perfection, which is conscience or inner moral judgment.

I hope that everyone can slowly digest and understand today's content, understand the relationship between consciousness, pre-consciousness, and unconsciousness, understand the origin of the self-superego, which is of great benefit to us in understanding our own thinking, emotions and behaviors, and more importantly, we can be more rational in dealing with husband and wife, parent-child relationship, and you can try to dig out the reasons behind it through superficial problems. Of course, as an ordinary person, I think it is enough to understand, and more complicated things are still left to psychological counselors to do!
