On November 4, at the review meeting organized by the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau, the "Master Plan" and "Comprehensive Scientific Investigation Report" of Xiangyun Shuimushan State Nature Reserve successfully passed the state-level review.

Xiangyun Shuimushan Prefecture-level Nature Reserve was established in 1988 with the approval of the State People's Government, with a total area of 1500 hectares. With the continuous advancement of the construction of ecological civilization in Xiangyun County, the status and role of the "ecological red line" of the nature reserve are becoming more and more important. In order to further improve the quality of the urban living environment and create a green and healthy living destination, in February 2018, the forestry department of Xiangyun County entrusted the Dali Branch of the Yunnan Forestry Survey and Planning Institute to complete the comprehensive scientific investigation and overall planning of the protected area.
Dali Branch attaches great importance to the preparation of the "Master Plan" and "Comprehensive Scientific Investigation Report" of the protected area, and after accepting the entrustment, it began to prepare for technology and funds. The scientific expedition was led by the Dali Branch of the Yunnan Forestry Survey and Planning Institute, and experts, professors and graduate students from the East Himalaya Research Institute of Dali University were invited to join in and set up an expedition together.
The survey found that the reserve contained the national grade II key protected large fungus - matsutake mushroom, as well as the grade III key protected wild plants in Yunnan Province: long-stemmed runnan, Yunnan maple poplar and monkey wood. Using infrared cameras to arrange point shooting, visits and other methods, a total of 16 species of mammals were found, which belonged to 5 orders and 11 families. Among them, there are 6 species of wild animals under national key protection, CITES appendice species or threatened species on the Red List of Chinese species: Tupaia belangeri, Martes flavigula, viverra zibetha, viverricula indica, prionailurus bengalensis, and Muntiacus reevesi)。 77 species or subspecies of birds were surveyed, belonging to 9 orders and 27 families, and the highest diversity of birds in the family Passeriformes (29 species). There are 8 species including the black-necked long-tailed pheasant (Syrmaticus humiae), lophura nycthemera, chrysolophus amherstiae, bubo nipalensis, Falco tinnunculus, Falco peregrinus, and buteo buteo japonicus), Elanus caeruleus.
Through the investigation, it was also found that only the oak forest around the temple and the Yunnan oil fir forest still have the components of the primary forest; there are certain species and numbers of rare and endangered wild mammals and birds preserved in the area, especially the discovery of the internationally endangered species and the national level I key protected wild animal black-necked pheasant, which has extremely important scientific value and conservation value, which is the core value of the establishment of the reserve.
In July 2018, the Shuimushan Prefecture-level Nature Reserve Management and Protection Bureau was officially established, and the main body of the protection of the protected area was implemented. In December 2018, the Master Plan "Principled Plan" was reviewed by the former Xiangyun County Forestry Bureau. In mid-March 2019, the project team completed the preparation of the first draft of the Master Plan and the Comprehensive Scientific Investigation Report. In April 2019, the Master Plan and the Comprehensive Scientific Investigation Report passed the county-level review. In June 2019, it was officially submitted to the state government for approval.
In the next step, the Xiangyun County Forestry and Grassland Bureau and the Management and Protection Bureau of the Protected Area will continue to strengthen the management and protection of the Shuimushan Nature Reserve, actively coordinate, and strive for the implementation of projects related to the planning of the protected area as soon as possible.
