This is the first time that Mianyang has intercepted live spiders from abroad in a container of inbound cargo.

The inbound goods are the returned goods exported to the United States by an enterprise in the Mianyang Export Processing Zone. When the inspection and quarantine personnel opened the box at the scene and inspected, they found that there was a spider web between the wooden pallet and the container in one of the containers, and there was a spider lying on it, and the staff quickly sampled the spider live, and carried out quarantine treatment for the goods and containers according to the regulations. After identification, the spider sample is a "greenhouse spider" and will not harm the ecological environment of Mianyang.

"Spiders are very diverse and widely distributed, and most of the spiders have poisonous glands that secrete venom, which have a lethal effect on small animals and some are harmful to humans. According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China, all live arthropods are prohibited from entering the country. According to the relevant person in charge of the Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Mianyang is located inland, with the implementation of the general import goods through the release of facilitation measures, the port inspection and quarantine agency in the outside of the inbound container quarantine treatment, the inland inspection and quarantine agency is responsible for the follow-up quarantine treatment supervision.
