This pest can harm spruce genus, fir genus and pine genus and other coniferous wood, its larvae hatched into the bark, destroyed the phloem, built crisscrossing tunnels, the elderly larvae drilled into the xylem, mothing depths up to 4.5 ~ 5 cm, and then at a right angle longitudinal extension, adult insects will also eat bark when supplementing nutrients, is a kind of tianniu that can cause devastating harm to forestry production, in 2003 by the State Forestry Administration included in the "forestry dangerous pest list".
