In July 1945, Han Tao (Cheng Haofeng), a reconnaissance staff officer of the Independent 88th Infantry Brigade of the Northeast Anti-Japanese League, was ordered to lead a reconnaissance detachment to secretly penetrate the hinterland of the Japanese defense, in order to obtain engineering drawings of the Japanese army.
