Why has "Swan Lake" swept the world for more than 100 years? Tan Yuanyuan decodes the charm of classical ballet masterpieces

For Tan Yuanyuan, the ballet "Swan Lake" has special feelings and memories.

At the age of 5, she saw the ballet "Swan Lake" on TV, and was attracted by the unique beauty and elegance of ballet, which inspired her ballet road, and later began to formally practice ballet at the age of 11. When Tan Yuanyuan served as the principal of the San Francisco Ballet, the first dance drama he starred in was also "Swan Lake". In 2009, when the San Francisco Ballet first came to Shanghai, it was Tan Yuanyuan who starred in the dance drama "Swan Lake".

On the evening of June 29th, the famous dancer Tan Yuanyuan held a theme activity at the Shanghai International Dance Center entitled "Inheriting Ballet Classics, Serving Campus Aesthetic Education: Guided Tour of classical ballet "Swan Lake"" to tell her fate with this classical ballet masterpiece. More than 200 dance lovers, ballet students, and the head of the Shanghai Primary and Secondary School Principals' Art Literacy Improvement Seminar participated.

Interpret the details of classic masterpieces and decode the key to the art of ballet appreciation

Just as the success of dancers did not happen overnight, the birth of ballet classics also went through a long historical process. In the lecture, Tan Yuanyuan, Cai Yilei, a special expert of Shanghai Theater Academy, and Wang Yan, chairman of the Shanghai International Dance Center Development Foundation, together with three guests, talked about the story of the birth of "Swan Lake" and told the century-old course of this ballet classic. From the backstory created by Tchaikovsky, to the disadvantages of the premiere of the Bolshoi Theater in 1877, from the success of the Petipa version in 1895, to the different versions performed by famous artists from all over the world. Through the sharing of several guests, the audience members looked back at the birth of the dance drama "Swan Lake" and felt the enduring humanistic charm of the art classic.

In the lecture, Tan Yuanyuan also provided an introductory way for the audience to appreciate ballet through the analysis of the dance posture skills in the dance drama "Swan Lake". For a classic work such as "Swan Lake", its artistic value lies not only in the work itself, but also in its condensation of generations of artists' exploration of ballet art, and also shapes the aesthetic interest and technical skills of classical ballet. By interpreting such works, it will also help the public find the key to decoding the art of ballet appreciation and better understand ballet works.

The Temple of Art is transformed into a literary and art classroom, and the combination of culture and education serves campus aesthetic education

All along, the Shanghai International Dance Center Development Foundation has been committed to the development and dissemination of dance art, giving full play to the advantages of the dance center to gather top dance resources, creating a "dance space" public welfare cultural brand, so that people of different levels and ages can feel the charm of dance art. The Foundation also explores the promotion and popularization of art combining culture and education by promoting the development of the Shanghai Student Dance Alliance and creating the Shanghai International Dance Center Youth Dance Festival. Since 2020, the Foundation has cooperated with the Municipal Education Commission and the Municipal Arts and Education Commission to carry out the Shanghai Primary and Secondary School Art Literacy Improvement Seminar Project, undertake special training in the dance section, and serve the development of campus aesthetic education.

As a special support activity supported by the Shanghai Municipal Cultural and Educational Integration Project, the lecture was sponsored by the Shanghai Theater Academy and the Shanghai International Dance Center Development Foundation, hosted by the Shanghai Opera Tan Yuanyuan International Ballet Art Studio and the Shanghai International Dance Center Theater, and co-organized by the Shanghai Opera Dance Academy and the Shanghai Dance School. The audience not only included dance lovers and ballet students, but also special audiences from the campus leaders of various primary and secondary schools and kindergartens in Shanghai.

At present, Shanghai is focusing on shaping the charm of urban soft power, accelerating the construction of a socialist international cultural metropolis with world influence, and creating a new image of citizens in the new era with a sense of responsibility, the spirit of contract, scientific concepts, and humanistic qualities. The development of campus aesthetic education work is to let students cultivate noble personality under the infiltration of art, and lay a solid foundation for becoming citizens in the new era.

"In the process of urban soft power construction, our dance center must not only continuously introduce high-quality dance art works, but also continuously promote the promotion and popularization of dance art in different fields." Wang Yan hopes that through the development of cultural and educational projects such as the principal's art literacy improvement seminar, the beauty of art can be spread to more campuses, serve the development of campus aesthetic education, and let elegant art infiltrate the growth of children.
