After more than 80 years of development and inheritance, another "old brand" on Fuzhou Road has officially returned. On 10 October 2021, Shanghai HSBC Paper reopened at 368 Fuzhou Road.
Fuzhou Road is known as the "First Street of Chinese Culture". In addition to xinghualou, lao zhengxing, Wang Baohe and other long-established brands that have crossed the century, the restarted HSBC paper line comes with a strong artistic atmosphere, which not only brings a familiar "taste" to many old Shanghainese, but also adds luster to the cultural construction of Fuzhou Road.

"Time-honored brand" returns, wanting to create a "city study"
Shanghai HSBC Paper Shop, formerly known as "HSBC New Paper Number", was founded in 1934 and was originally located on Shandong Middle Road, because of its proximity to the Bund and rapid delivery, it was welcomed by many customers at that time. After the restructuring and merger in 1956, Shanghai HSBC Paper Company moved to the current site of Fuzhou Road, becoming the largest paper store in the city, operating with the characteristics of mounting, dragging, cutting, and operating some industrial paper.
At that time, Qi Decheng, an old paper cutting technician, was exquisite in knife work and knew the performance of various papers well. The sugar-wrapped cellophane of the candy factory is tough and brittle, and others often break it when they cut it, and it is smoothly cut into his hands, and has been rated as an advanced worker and a model worker in Shanghai for many times. In order to save paper for customers, the technicians in the store, including Qi Decheng, can achieve reasonable size and specifications, which is well received by customers.
In 1992, the store was renamed "HSBC Paper" and expanded its business premises. On March 18, 2021, Shanghai HSBC Paper Co., Ltd., wholly owned by Shanghai Miramar (Group) Co., Ltd., was officially established. After being re-integrated and restructured, the new HSBC Paper Line reopened on 10 October 2021.
Walking into the new HSBC Paper Shop, in addition to Chinese rice paper, hsbc paper shop also displays a wide variety of Ming-style furniture. Further inside, there is a personal exhibition of calligraphy and paintings by the painter Yuan Ye, which is also the first exhibition of HSBC Paper.
"Here, combined with traditional Chinese craftsmanship and culture, exhibitions of works will be held for different outstanding artists every month to disseminate and display a beautiful way of life." Chen Yong, Chairman of Shanghai Miramar (Group) Co., Ltd., said, "In order to inherit and carry forward the traditional Chinese culture, HSBC Paper will focus on high-end Chinese rice paper. But what we promote is not just a piece of paper, but a culture, a concept. In the future, HSBC Paper Will be presented in the public eye in the form of an urban study. ”
Use culture to light up Fuzhou Road and upgrade the cultural format of Fuzhou Road
This brand new and time-honored brand has distinct Elements of Yangtze River Delta integration.
The reopened Shanghai HSBC Paper Shop carries Red Star Rice Paper, Suzhou Connoisseur Wood and Shanghai Le in the Art Gallery together. Among them, Red Star Rice Paper from Anhui is a well-known Chinese time-honored brand; HSBC Paper Line was once known as the "King of Paper" in Shencheng; Suzhou Connoisseur Wood Owner Tapping Ming Furniture; Shanghai Le in the Art Gallery focused on exploring outstanding artists and curating for its exhibition; the first artist Yuan Ye was from the China Academy of Fine Arts in Zhejiang, and Chen Yong was also from Zhejiang, who was the first president of Yiwu China Commodity City.
Returning HSBC Paper to Fuzhou Road is also a promise that Chen Yong made 16 years ago.
In 1992, led by the Huangpu District Government, Baixin Bookstore, together with Shanghai Art Supplies Store, HSBC Paper Shop, Lianchangji Sporting Goods Store and other long-established stationery enterprises in Huangpu District, merged and managed to form Shanghai Miramar (Group) Company. In 2005, Fuyue Holding Group, a group of Zhejiang merchants, acquired Shanghai Miramar (Group) Co., Ltd. Chen Yong said that making fuzhou road culture glow with a new atmosphere of vitality is the wish he wrote down on the night he completed the bid for the beautiful Chinese bid.
In 2020, also on Fuzhou Road, Baixin Bookstore restarted. In 2021, HSBC Paper banking will be restarted. Chen Yong uses "two children" to describe these two projects. Chen Yong told reporters, "In the future, on Fuzhou Road, there will be a third and fourth old brand to return... Use culture to light up Fuzhou Road, upgrade the cultural format of Fuzhou Road, and attract young people to gather here, we will continue to do it. ”
