90. Shandong Historical Celebrity: Ran Min

Ran Min (320 – June 1, 352), courtesy name Yongzeng, was a native of Chengxian County, Lanling Commandery (present-day Yicheng District, Shandong Province) (in present-day Northwest Huang, Henan), and the adopted grandson of Emperor Shi Hu of Later Zhao, whose father Ran Liang was the founder of the Ran Wei regime during the Sixteen Kingdoms period, reigning from 350 to 352.

He was brave and good at war, scheming, and had many meritorious achievements in the Shi army, defeating the Jin army and Liang Calf, and the Hu and Han generals were afraid. With his high achievements, he gradually became dissatisfied with the Shi clan, and in 350 he eliminated the Shi clan and proclaimed himself emperor, with the state name of Great Wei, and restored the Ran surname. In 352, Ran Min failed to break through, was captured by the Former Yan emperor Murong Juan, and beheaded at Mount Shu, and was posthumously honored as the Emperor of Wu mourning.
