Huang Mingsheng, born in October 1915 in Xingguo County, Jiangxi, joined the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army in September 1930, joined the Communist Youth League of China in 1931, and became a member of the Communist Party of China in February 1934.
In May 1934, as one of the top graduates of the Central Military Commission's Radio School, 19-year-old Huang Mingsheng was assigned to work at the radio station of the First Division of the Red First Army. In October, he embarked on the Long March with his troops. In August 1935, Huang Mingsheng was transferred to the Red Fourth Front.
In the war years, the radio station was the nerve of the troops and the eyes and ears of the chief, which was very important. At that time, the radio station had two symbols, "called symbol" and "self-use symbol". The telegram levels are "flat newspaper", "urgent report", "fire urgent report", "ten thousand urgent report", "100,000 fire urgent report", "ten thousand fire urgent report". The telegrams received during the Long March were all "100,000 fire urgent reports" and "10,000 fire urgent reports." Whenever you encounter a "ten thousand fire urgent report", as long as you hear a telephone call, all work must stop and prepare to receive the report.
One day in February 1936, the Red Fourth Front encountered the Kuomintang Xue Yue column in the Ya'an Mountains of Sichuan Province, and engaged in a fierce battle with it. At that time, the enemy was at a high place, and occupied the top of the hill, directly attacking the headquarters of the Red Fourth Front.
At that time, the radio was set up in a wooden room. As a telegraph operator, Huang Mingsheng hurriedly put on his headphones and prepared to send a 40-word "100,000-word "100,000-fire urgent report" to the headquarters, and the headquarters also had a "10,000-fire urgent report" to receive immediately. However, just as Huang Mingsheng called the headquarters, the enemy was less than a mile away from them, and set up machine guns to strafe them, the situation was very critical, and the troops issued an order to retreat.
"Evacuate, the enemy is coming!" The conductor anxiously urged the stitches to be removed. "The 'Ten Thousand Fire Urgent Report' military order is like a mountain, no matter how nervous it is, it must be collected!" Huang Mingsheng issued a "100,000 fire emergency report" as quickly as possible. By this time, the enemy's fire had been concentrated on the military headquarters and the radio. Huang Mingsheng could not take care of these things, and concentrated on sending out the "100,000 Fire Emergency Report" and then quickly received the "10,000 Fire Urgent Report" sent by the headquarters. Suddenly, he felt something fly over his scalp. The conductor shouted, "Operator, danger!" But he still kept his head down calmly until he sent out the 3 letters of "QSL" indicating that the message had been received.
After moving to a safe place, Huang Mingsheng remembered what flew over his scalp, took off his military hat and looked at it, Ho! There was a hole in the middle of the hat, and a strand of hair was burned.
Although he has repeatedly experienced dangers, Huang Mingsheng has never wanted to back down. After the founding of New China, Huang Mingsheng has also been engaged in military communications work. (Reporter Li Zi)
