Dong Ping: Killed his father to marry a woman, but he was extremely brave, the most controversial member of the Five Tiger Generals

author:The historical empire of the Seven-Stringed King

He came out of the battlefield in armor and robes, two guns in his hands. The carved bow is inserted in the pot, and the sword shark sheath is hidden.

The mist coat fluttered yellow brocade belt, vacating the Marton purple silk reins. The Green Banner Red Flame Dragon Snake moved, and the southeast side was guarded by Sundanese alone.

This is a hymn to the two-gun general Dong Ping in the original book of "Water Margin", which highly praises Dong Ping's clothing image and horse weapons, and shows his bravery on the side. But in the minds of all of us, Dong Ping does not seem to have any sense of existence, because he appeared relatively late, and not long after that, he was seated in the good Han ranking and did not appear in the most exciting part, so the audience was shallow and not impressed.

Dong Ping: Killed his father to marry a woman, but he was extremely brave, the most controversial member of the Five Tiger Generals

Qixianjun will tell you the story behind the double-gun General Dong Ping today, and his most controversial place.

Three nicknames, the origin of the image

As we all know, the story of "Water Margin" was born out of the popular "Great Song Xuanhe and Testament" in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, in which Dong Ping was one of the thirty-six leaders under song Jiang, but his nickname was not called double gun general, but called "one bump straight". At the same time, Gong Kai, in the "Thirty-Six Praises of Song Jiang", compared Dong Ping with Fan Duo under Liu Bang - "General Xi Fan, Hongmen straight collision, fighting wine, his words are very strong", and in this work his nickname is "Always Bumping".

The famous philologist Yu Jiaxi believes that the nickname of "bumping straight" (or constantly colliding) is to describe Dong Ping's bravery and invincibility whenever he encounters a battle. Qixian Jun thought it would be better to give Dong Ping the nickname of the vanguard as well, because every time there was a war, Dong Ping was in a hurry to fight, like a fierce bull hitting a person, and the speed was fast and the martial arts were high, so no one could stop him. However, these two words belonged to the slang language of the Henan region of the Song Dynasty, and by the time of the Ming Dynasty, the official language had changed, so it seemed too jerky, so the "Water Margin" changed Dong Ping's nickname to "Double Gun General", and the later version was "Double Gun General".

In the Zizhi Tongjian, it is written that Wang Yanzhang, a major general in the Five Dynasties period, "used two iron guns in each battle, all weighing 100 pounds, one in the saddle, one in the hand, and the direction is invincible." Dong Ping's double-gun image in "Water Margin" may refer to here.

The character of the same name, the difference between heaven and earth

The character of Dong Ping has really appeared in history, but the same name is different, and the real history is the Southern Song Dynasty. The records about him are from historical materials such as the Records of the Year Since Jianyan, the Records of Defending the City, the History of song, and the Compilation of the Northern Leagues of the Three Dynasties, but this Dong Ping is completely different from the deeds of Dong Ping in the Water Margin.

In the third year of the Southern Song Dynasty (1129 AD), the Jin army launched a major attack on Tang Prefecture (唐州, in present-day Tanghe County, Henan Province), causing heavy casualties to the Song army, and Zhao Zhuo was forced to move his seat of government to Tongbai County. There was a rich man named Dong Ping in the county, who scattered his family wealth to form a civilian armed force of thousands of people to resist the Jin army in self-defense. The local government was overjoyed and appointed Dong Ping to the post of commander and asked him to continue to contribute to the great cause of resisting Jin. Everyone saw that dong ping was estimated to think that Dong Ping was a heroic haojie, but the following things would surprise everyone, and at the same time, the officials at that time did not expect that Dong Ping's heart would have a lust attack.

In March and April of the same year, Dong Ping led his troops to Yingshan County and Xiaogan County under the banner of King Qin to carry out large-scale burning and looting, including ordinary people who failed to flee in time. In September of the same year, the imperial court sent Xuanfu to send an envoy to The Zhixinyang Army, Wu Jinglang Sun Xuan, to lead his troops to requisition Dong Ping. As a result, Dong Ping defeated the Song army, attacked Xinyang, and captured Sun Xuan's family members. As Dong Ping's strength grew stronger and his ambitions swelled, he drove out teng mu, the governor of Tang Prefecture, and also killed the Song general Shangguan Wu, occupying The Dayi Mountain in Tang Prefecture for a long time, covering Sui, Tang, and Xinyang. In order to expand his military strength, Dong Ping ordered the people of the three counties to pay grain and grass, taxes, and attempted to collude with the pseudo-Qi emperor Liu Yu.

On March 16, 1130, the official general Xin Xuan of De'an Province led his troops and Dong Ping to engage in a fierce battle in the Yingshan County area for several days, and finally defeated Dong Ping and killed many thousand people. Dong Ping's troops collapsed, and the officers and soldiers took advantage of the victory to pursue. Dong Ping saw that the situation was not good, and led the remnants to retreat in the direction of Xijing. Soon after, he was besieged by local civilian forces and eventually killed (somewhat like Li Zicheng's ending).

Kill the man to marry a wife, and the heart is fierce

When Song Jiang attacked Dongping Province, Yu Baosi thought that he had an old friendship with Dong Ping, so he took the initiative to ask Miao and Wang Dingliu to go and persuade Dong Ping to surrender, which angered Dong Ping. Dong Ping wanted to behead the two, but Taishou Cheng Wanli dissuaded him from beheading them, and ordered each of them to beat twenty sticks and drive them out of the city. It can be seen from here that although Dong Ping represents the position of the official government, even if he knows it, he cannot be too familiar with it, but his way of doing things is fierce. Shi Jin entered the city to make an internal response, and as a result, he was denounced by the prostitute Li Ruilan and put on death row by Dong Ping, which also proved that Dong Ping's methods were cruel.

Dong Ping's troops went out of the city to meet the Liangshan army that was fighting in the middle of the battle. Dong Ping first fought with Han Tao, and then again with Xu Ning, regardless of victory or defeat, Song Jiang worried about Xu Ning and told him to come back. Dong Ping chased and killed Song Jiang's army, rampaged, and Song Jiang led the army to defeat and lured Dong Ping to pursue. When Dong Ping chased him to Shouzhang County, he was tripped by a tripwire and tripped over his mount, and was captured alive by Third Lady Hu and Second Lady Sun. Song Jiang personally untied the rope and treated him with courtesy. Without saying a word, Dong Ping surrendered to Song Jiang, led the army to open the city gate, killed Cheng Wanli, and took his daughter as his wife. Guishun Song Jiang actually did not hesitate, directly betrayed his superiors, and also used the excuse of slandering Cheng Wanli's fish and meat people, killing Cheng Wanli and taking away his daughter, which can be described as both colorful and cruel, which is enough to make his heroic image plummet.

The Seven-Stringed Emperor said: "The two-gun general of the heroic posture is unseen, and there is no one to stop him." If there is no killing of the man to marry his wife, he will earn the wind and be called the king. ”
