A large number of raccoons appear in the Qixinghe Wetland in Heilongjiang

Harbin, 10 Oct (Xinhua) -- A reporter learned from the Heilongjiang Provincial Qixinghe National Nature Reserve Administration that since the beginning of this year, the number of national first-class wild plants and the world's endangered plants in the reserve, the number of raccoons, has soared, and has exceeded 20,000.

It is reported that raccoon is a perennial floating herb distributed in Europe, Asia, Africa and other regions, which has extremely high requirements for the living environment. In September 2017, raccoons were first discovered in the Qixinghe National Nature Reserve, when there were about 5,000 plants.

In order to strengthen the investigation and study of raccoon, in early 2018, the Protected Areas Authority formulated a special survey plan for raccoon. Researchers have repeatedly gone deep into the bubble swamps and reed ponds of the protected area to investigate and monitor, and make fixed monitoring samples in the dense area and set distribution points. Continuous monitoring found that the number of raccoons increased exponentially compared with 2017, and the distribution range was also expanded from one pipe protection station to two pipe protection stations, and it could be seen everywhere in the boat lanes, swamps and ditches, and the densest place could reach 500 plants per square meter.

According to the person in charge of the management bureau, the Qixinghe wetland raccoon is large, widespread, vigorous growth, strong fertility, while the algae is a natural filter of the wetland, it will further purify the water body, which indicates that the ecological environment of the wetland will be better and better.
