An hour's drive south of Chengdu will take you to the picturesque Heilongtan Scenic Area, which is dotted with lakes. We were commissioned to create a large resort with a landmark effect here.

A large resort with a landmark effect
We wanted to make the most of the grandeur of the building and the magnificence of the views, while providing a home away from home experience. And on this basis, create a convenient, interesting and local journey.

The architectural concept is inspired by Limpan Village
The design concept is inspired by the local village of Limpan. Linpan Village is known for its eclectic mass layout, green courtyards, fields and forests, painting an ecological picture of harmonious coexistence between architecture and nature. Therefore, we planted a series of greenery and flowers on the periphery of the hotel room building and tried to connect the different areas with corridors. In the process, we realized that the corridor could also be integrated as an integral part of the building massing.

The corridor becomes the heart of the resort
Based on this idea, the volume of the main lobby has evolved organically from the corridor and becomes the center of the resort. Towering at the entrance and emphasizing the longitudinal language, the curves transition into a horizontal and open structure to perfectly represent the beauty of the lakeside.

Warm, natural and rhythmic, a sustainable ridge structure guides visitors through the resort
The main building's roof and corridors were made of timber that echoed both traditional architecture and ship-shaped elements, while meeting sustainable design goals. The result is a warm, natural and rhythmic ridge that guides visitors through the resort.

The corridor allows guests to walk through the hotel without fear of the scorching sun and rain
These corridors allow guests to traverse the hotel without fear of the scorching sun and rain. In some areas, the top of the gallery is wide and gentle, with one side almost close to the ground and the other open to the courtyard. This sense of envelopment creates an intimate and comfortable spatial scale. As the corridor approaches the guest building, the spine-like roof structure is dramatically raised and opened, allowing guests to enjoy the natural light and views of the lush gardens.

This dramatic interplay of compression and openness creates a unique and memorable spatial experience that strikes a dynamic balance between architecture, nature and people.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our client, CRT Cultural Tourism, for entrusting their ambitious vision to AIM, the hotel's management party, Club Eastern Mediterranean, for their support, and for the outstanding contributions of the AIM team members. Special thanks to Zhou Wangshu for his co-creation during the design phase, and Wang Jiachen for deepening and supervising the construction of the project.
