Dirt Pen: There are too many explanatory parts of the manga volume 1, so the key is to condense. My wish is "Please make this part more interesting". After the animation was completed, the effect was so good that I wanted the manga to draw the same way.
Kurata: At the end of the original volume 1, Lico and Nado say goodbye, "Now it's time to start!!" This sentence must be left behind, but the process changes, and there is no place for this sentence to be said. So I moved volume 1 of "Star Compass" to the second episode, and deleted a lot of elements.
TuBi: When the meeting talked about the star compass, I felt that this paragraph would be deleted, so I said, "Actually, the compass is very important!" ", braked a car.

Tobi: I like the adult face drawn by Mr. HuangSe, so the new adult characters who appear after the animation are all influenced by Mr. HuangSe.
- What is the difference between "From the Abyss" and other animations?
Kurata: "Uh-huh" is very much!
Tubi: Nanachi said "Uh-huh" about 100 times, after all, whether answering or asking questions, it was replaced by "Uh-huh". But looking at the theatrical version of the script, "Uh-huh" omits a lot.
Kurata: There are three "uh-huhs" in two pages, and Nanachi doesn't say anything but that (laughs).

But for "From the Abyss", although the characters have done nothing wrong, there will still be "This can be called Happy Ending... Do you? " situation. Then there are quite a few characters who can't figure out whether they're good or villainous. For example, Orson is probably a good man, but he is not at all ruthless when he fights Thundergu.
Tubi: Maybe she's not a good person. If encountered at a deeper level, that's the final boss feeling. That's how I portrayed it. All the "white flutes", I don't want to describe too cheaply.
Kurata: The white flute has misalignment. Regardless of the worldview or the plot, it is biased in a direction that ordinary people cannot imagine. I think this is the charm of Mr. Tubi, and I am very happy to do it.
Li ke is also, at first glance, a lively ordinary girl. But at that age, being able to go deep into the abyss that can never come back is not something that ordinary people can do. Later, the adventure itself gradually surpassed the original goal of "finding a mother".

- The script of "From the Abyss" is also difficult to write.
Kurata: So, I want to know what kind of person Mr. Tobi is. When we first met, we were also chatting idly.
Tubi: Yes, we also talked about Blade Teeth (laughs).
Kurata: When asked what he liked, he listed documentaries like National Geographic Channel and Animal Planet. Then I also liked the movie "127 Hours", which is very similar to my hobby.
Mr. Tubi also said that he liked "The Peak of the Gods", the story of a mountaineer captured by Mount Everest. It is no wonder that the "people attracted to the abyss" are portrayed so well.
TV originals eventually returned to the secret story
- The anime ends with the teleportation ship as the end.
Kurata: The back of the first book cover is painted with a teleportation ship, which is an interesting means of communication. Then Masayuki Kojima oversaw the proposal, and finally used this thing as a conclusion when he finally embarked on the road.
Earth pen: The original storyboard, the boat easily floated to the mouth of the cave. But most of the messenger ships should not be able to deliver.

Kurata: It is said that Mr. Tobi likes the place where the little girl was almost eaten by a small dinosaur at the beginning of Jurassic Park Lost World (laughs).
Tubi: It's more annoying to be bitten by a small monster than to be swallowed by a big monster, isn't it?
Kurata: The living depiction of "From the Abyss" is very strong. After the animation Lico was poisoned, her hands were also swollen to the point that it made people feel that "this will be the case in reality".
- Do not avoid, do not escape the feeling of tragic depiction.
Kurata: Although "From the Abyss" is a fantasy story, the worldview has the feeling of a documentary - "people will die like this", not lying.
Tubi: This is what I learned from The Silver Key.
Kurata: That's what it was (laughs). It takes time to heal wounds without taking the secret medicine or magic that is fully recovered after eating it. In the end, only the thumb of the hand can move, but Li ke is happy that it is "good for travel".
Tubi: I can continue the adventure, so I am excited.
Kurata: Don't treat injuries as tragedies, always look forward. This man is very powerful.
Dirt Pen: Li ke has seen many corpses on the surface that have been stabbed by monsters and then swollen all over. I only injured one hand, which can be said to be quite lucky.
But at the same time, there should be many people living on the ground, and they think that Li Ke is very annoying.

Tubi: That's it. There is a sentence in "The Mountain of the Gods" that also impressed me:

--Mr. Kurata, let me tell you what I thought of the original manga.
Kurata: From Volume 1 to Volume 3, manga technology has improved significantly. There are many explanations in Volume 1, and after Volume 2, it is explained by character actions.
Tubi: I gradually figured out how to shape the character. Orson was originally a grandfather, and Maluluku was just an ordinary girl.
What changed this was Mr. Kazuo Koike's "Attractive Techniques: A Guide to The Selling "Characters" of The Original Author of the Veteran Drama Painting.
Characters with huge backgrounds, colliding and intertwining with each other – that's drama, go paint it.
Li Mingqing and Li Ke interact, and various plots occur, which is also the result of "unauthorized actions of the characters".
Kurada: When I wrote the part of Li Mingqing, I found that the two had a part of "pity for the same disease" and mutual understanding. This relationship is very similar to "Dr. Hannibal's relationship with Clarice" in "The Silence of the Lambs". Hannibal gave Clarice a way to live on the grounds that "it would be interesting for you to live in this world."
Tubi: That's right. The two have a place where their hearts are connected.
Kurata: Dawn Qing said to Li Ke, "You are closer to this side than I thought." Then Lico replied," I... Know how to call it romantic things. You have no accommodation on this."
Kurata: Although we keep our distance, our souls attract each other. From this paragraph onwards, both characters are plumped up and the dialogue is quite great.
Tubi: The dialogue is completely handed over to the characters, and naturally it comes out. When you want to unfold unexpectedly, you will also let the characters act.
When naming a name, be careful not to make the name too stupid
- How is the title determined?
Tubi: Originally it was called Hello Abyss, and then the editor said that the impact of the title was too weak. When considering words that wouldn't be duplicated when searching, I thought of jojo's bizarre adventures as "Made in Heaven" and decided on the name (from the abyss).
Kurata: As the story unfolds, the work becomes like "something that arises from the abyss of Mr. Tobi." ABYSS can also be translated as "Deep Darkness" and is a good title.
Tubi: Thanks for the compliment. In addition, in order to avoid duplicate names, the names of the characters after Ma Luluku have also been searched and checked in advance.
It also brings the problem of difficult pronunciation.
Earth pen: Isn't "Oise Kang" similar to the (soft)Zi Meow?
Kurata: Azusa meow ~(laughs).
TuBi: Zi Meow's sense of language is just right (laughs).

Kurata: The name of the character in the fantasy work, it is easy to feel the culture from that country. But the name "From the Abyss" has a wonderful sense of statelessness.
Tubi: Occasionally there will be a character like Proshuka like a Russian name, but basically no nationality features. The names of Lico and Regu didn't think about anything when they named them. After that, I followed Mr. Kazuo Koike's name is very important. When you call out a name, you have to be able to appear on that person's face" is taught to be named.

Kurata: This balance is much heavier than in other manga.

Kurata: Ah, that's right! It can be painful to read, and the characters can suffer serious injuries. There are indeed commonalities.
Earth pen: Hunters speak of the ability to read, and the practice of annotating katakana next to kanji is very handsome. Therefore, the spiritual affiliation machine is also marked as such (ゾアホリック).

Earth Pen: Although not all of them are available, for example, the "Star Compass" comes from Magic. The words "It guides hometown" on Magic's "Compass of Stars" are very handsome.

Kurata: It's really bold. I have always said in interviews that the deeper you go into the abyss, the more terrifying and profound Mr. Tubi's habits become. So the deeper I went, the more I was afraid of Mr. Tubi (laughs). Whether it's a comic or a novel, the motivation for reading it is often the curiosity of "what will happen next" In the case of From the Abyss, I can't really guess what will happen next. But the only thing that can be expected is the mood after reading it, which is definitely neither despair nor hope.
