King Chu Kang Section 13 Ling Yin Qujian (Part 1)

Even if we finish the story of King Chu Kang, there is a cattle man that we must not forget, and he is Yin Qujian, the commander of the Chu State during the reign of King Chu Kang.

Qu Jian, male, surname Qi, Qu clan, name Jian, zi mu, date of birth unknown. Most of the birth dates of the Chu people are unknown, because the Chu people believe in witchcraft and are afraid that their birthdays will be known and the next trick will be made.

Qu Jian is one of the cattle people of the Qu family. Here, we will talk about the major families of the Chu State. Of course, the largest family of the Chu State is the royal family, which need not be said. The royal family is all surnamed Xiong, and the other major families in the Chu kingdom have basically their origins in the surname of Qi.

To distinguish between the major families, it is necessary to divide by surname, so the author believes that it is better to divide by surname, which is in line with history. There are many history books that describe the king of Chu as Qi Moumou, which is based on the habits of modern people, and modern people are surnames + names, so this is not wrong. But it is easy to mistake, because in the Spring and Autumn Rivers and Lakes in the Chu country, the surname qi is more, it is more reasonable to use the clan + name, at least it will not be confused. For example, Qu Jian, although his surname is Qi, we do not say Qi Jian, but take his surname, that is, "Qu" clan plus his name "Jian". That's why we've always called Qu Yuan, the greatest statesman, lexicographer, diplomat, thinker, and poet of the Chu state, Qu Yuan, rather than Qi Yuan.

The major families of the Chu State, the first of which is the Dou family mentioned above, originated from the fourteenth monarch of the Chu State, Chu Ruo'ao Xiongyi, so it is the surname of Qi. Xiong Yi's youngest son, Dou Bobi, because his food was in Doudi, he took Dou as his clan, so he was called Dou Bobi. The Dou family was originally a branch of the Ruo'ao family, the largest family in the Chu Kingdom, and its representative figures were very many, such as Dou Bobi, Dou Lian, Dou Ban, Dou Yue Jiao, and Dou Ben Huang (changed to Miao Ben Emperor after defection). During the reign of King Zhuang of Chu, the clan was exterminated due to the rebellion of Yin Douyue, and by the time of King Kang of Chu, there was basically no Dou family in the political arena of the Chu state.

Another example is the Cheng family, which is also a branch of the Ruo'ao family, the surname of Qi, its ancestor is Cheng Dechen, and there are many representative figures, such as Cheng Dechen, Cheng Daxin, Cheng Jia and so on. During the reign of King Zhuang of Chu, the clan was exterminated due to the rebellion of Yin Douyue pepper, and by the time of King Chu Kang, there was basically no Cheng family in the political arena of the Chu state.

The Hagi family, surnamed Qi, because its land is in the land of The Ridge, so it takes the Hagi as its clan. Its ancestor should be Lu Chen, and the representative figures include Pu Jia, Sun Shu Ao, And Huang Zi Feng and others. During the reign of King Chu Kang, the most famous figure was Ling Yin Zi Feng.

The Yang family, surnamed Yang, was originally a Yangguo person, and became part of the Chu state after the Yangguo was destroyed by the Chu state, and its gong clan took Yang as its clan. The cattle people of the Yang family do not need more, one Yang Youji can be, because Yang Youji has experienced three eras of Chu Zhuang Wang, Chu Gong Wang, and Chu Kang Wang, the battle achievements are outstanding, and the family power has gradually become stronger, and by the time of Chu Kang Wang, it has become a big family.

The Qu family, surnamed Qi, Qu clan, fiefdom in Qudi, so Qu as the clan, and finally formed the Qu family. There are many representative figures, and its ancestor is Qu Feng, the son of King Wu of Chu, as well as Qu Quan, Qu Zhong, Qu Chen (changed to Wu Chen after defection) Qu Dang, Qu Zhi, and so on. By the time of King Chu Kang, the most famous representative figure was Ling Yin Qujian. It can be said that the Qu family, as a duke of the Chu state, originated from the royal family and has been prosperous for a long time until the Warring States period, becoming one of the three major dukes of the Chu state, and the only large family with a fief as its clan. In the Warring States period, the Qu family produced a well-known cattle man in Chinese history, Qu Yuan!

In the Warring States period of the Chu Kingdom, there were two major families, that is, the Jing and Zhao, the history of these two major families is relatively short, and the characters are called the clans, which is not to be said here.

As an important figure in the period of King Chu Kang, Qu Jian must first mention his grandfather and father. Qu Jian's grandfather was called Qu Dang, and there are not many historical records about Qu Dang, but they are mostly found on the battlefield. Qu Dangshou is the general Zuo Guang, who was the king of Chuzhuang, and one of the most trusted generals of king Chuzhuang. He was very heroic in the Battle of Jinchu. After the victory over the Jin army, Qu Dang proposed to build a jingguan, but was rejected by the king of Chuzhuang, who therefore gave an impromptu speech with the theme of "stopping the ge for the sake of martial arts".

Qu Dang remained a general of Zuo Guang during the reign of King Gong of Chu, and later served as Mo Ao of the Chu State. His son Qu succeeded him to the throne and also took over the chu state of Mo Ao, in charge of the affairs of the Chu princes, which was also considered to be an important position.

Qu Jian was the son of Qu Zhi and was mainly active during the reign of King Chu Kang. In 551 BC, he assumed the post of Mo Ao, whom King Chu Kang had renewed his hopes for. Because of his outstanding work in Mo Ao's office, his outstanding ability, and his absolute loyalty to the King of Chu, after three years, he succeeded the deceased Feng Zifeng as the Lingyin of the Chu State.

After Qu Jian served as Ling Yin, his debut was to lead the Chu army in a crusade against the former Chu vassal state Shu Jiuguo, who had been instigated by wu to defect from the chu state. Specifically, we have already talked about it in detail before, anyway, we achieved a great victory of the Chu army against the Wu army, the main force of the Wu army was damaged, and the Shu kingdom was destroyed.

In the same year, he again accompanied Prince Chu Kang to rescue the vassal state of Chaoguo, which was attacked by the wu army led by Zhu Fan, the king of Wu, who was eager to take revenge, and this battle made the Wu army pay the price of Wu Wang's death. Since then, the Eastern Front has fought against Wu, the Chu State has won an overwhelming victory, and the Eastern Front has been temporarily calm. And it greatly shook the princes of the Central Plains led by the Jin State, and directly contributed to the second alliance of soldiers.

The second meeting of the soldiers was again attended by Qu Jian as the head of the diplomatic delegation of the Chu state. After several struggles, he finally won the interests of the princes of the Central Plains to respect the Jin dynasty and Chu as a common ally, and worked hard and made great achievements. For the sake of prudence, he instructed everyone to wear armor and hide the blade at the oath ceremony, because he believed that the Jin people did not pay attention to morality, and as the representative of the Chu state, he had to guard against it. That was a responsibility to the members of the delegation.

When he swore an oath, he insisted that the Chu state be the first, and forced the Jin state to the end, so that the Jin people did not dare to fight with it. Qu Jian's courage and perseverance quickly won the admiration of senior representatives from various countries, including Zhao Wu, the commander of the Jin Dynasty. Historical records record that Zhao Wu thus had a personal relationship with Qu Jian. By 545 BC, after Qu Jian's death, the State of Jin sent someone to mourn him, indicating Qu Jian's influence in the entire Spring and Autumn River and Lake at that time.
