Emperor Xuan of Han was very disliked by his crown prince Liu Yi, so why did he eventually pass it on to him

author:Zhang Shengquan's wonderful history

When Emperor Xuan of Han said this, his crown prince Liu Yi saw that Emperor Xuan of Han was using the fa figures and dealing with the ministers with severe punishments. At that time, two ministers, Yang Yun and Gai Kuanrao, had "sarcastic remarks" against Emperor Xuan of Han, so Emperor Xuan of Han killed them. Liu Yi was very worried, so he advised his father: "Your Majesty's punishment is too heavy, you should use Confucianism more and more to implement benevolent government." Emperor Xuan of Han was furious: "What do you know? Our Han family's system is to use hegemony and the royal way together in order to secure the world. If only the so-called 'moral government' like the Zhou Dynasty was practiced, how could it be done? (Meaning that the Zhou Dynasty was thus torn apart.) Nor can we simply use Confucianism. Those Confucians only know the past and the present, and they can't even figure out the 'name', how can they govern the world? ”

(Emperor Xuan of Han)

Emperor Xuan of Han said to the place of indignation, and even sighed: "Those who mess with my family, the prince also!" ”

Emperor Xuan of Han was not wrong. Later, after Liu Yi (Emperor Yuan of Han) came to power, He Ren was good at Confucianism, which resulted in the ministers sitting on the throne, forming three forces of foreign relatives, Confucians, and eunuchs fighting each other, but Emperor Yuan of Han could not control the situation, so the Han Dynasty began to decline from Emperor Yuan of Han, and this struggle between foreign relatives, Confucians, and eunuchs continued until the entire Western Han Dynasty was destroyed.

Since Emperor Xuan of Han already despised his crown prince, why didn't he depose him and set up another person, and continue to pass the throne to him?

In fact, Emperor Xuan of Han was not without suitable candidates at that time. After the first empress Xu Pingjun was poisoned, and after the second empress Huo Chengjun committed suicide, Emperor Xuan of Han especially favored a Zhang Jieyu. This Zhang Jieyu gave birth to a son named Liu Qin. Liu Qin was very similar in personality to Emperor Xuan of Han, and the history books recorded: "King Xian (Liu Qin) grew strong, good scriptures and laws, was intelligent and talented, and the emperor loved him very much." Emperor Xuan of Han even praised him bluntly: "True my son!" ”

If this was the case, why didn't Emperor Xuan of Han change Liu Qin to heir?

(Liu Yi stills)

In fact, Emperor Xuan of Han did not think about it, and he had many times the idea of making Liu Qin the crown prince. In the end, there was no standing, and it was recorded in the history books: "The prince began in the small, and the upper few relied on the Xu clan, and the throne was killed by Xu Hou, and the prince flea lost his mother, so Fu Renye." ”

What this passage says is that Emperor Xuan of Han could not bear it.

Liu Yi was the eldest son of Emperor Xuan of Han and was born to Emperor Xuan of Han and Empress Xu. When Emperor Xuan of Han and Empress Xu (Xu Pingjun) got married, Emperor Xuan of Han was still in prison, and the two could be said to be a husband and wife in distress. When Emperor Xuan of Han became emperor, Huo Guang and his wife Huo Xian wanted to make their daughter Huo Chengjun empress, but Emperor Xuan of Han did not want to lose the couple in distress, and issued an edict saying that they would find the old sword when they were in distress. The ministers understood that xu Pingjun was recommended as empress. But later, when Empress Xu became pregnant again, Huo Xian's doctor poisoned her to death, and Huo Chengjun became empress as he wished.

(So the sword is deep)

Because of this, Emperor Xuan of Han could not bear to depose Liu Yi as crown prince. Not deposing Liu Yi is the greatest memorial and comfort to his troubled husband and wife Xu Pingjun.

What if Emperor Xuan of Han dealt with his favorite son, Liu Qin? In this regard, there is also a record in the history books: "The former chancellor Wei Xianzi Xuan Chengyang frantically let Brother Hou, through Ming Xinggao, called Yu Imperial Court, but summoned Bai Xuan to become a lieutenant of Huaiyang, in order to impress King Xian, supplemented by the minister of pushing, by the crown prince Sui'an." ”

That is to say, the late Minister Wei Xian had a son, Wei Xuancheng, who was very wise. After Wei Xian's death, in order to cede the marquis to his brother, he pretended to be mad. It was not until his brother successfully attacked the knight that he returned to normal. This incident caused a great reaction in the DPRK, and everyone praised Wei Xuancheng. Therefore, Emperor Xuan of Han asked Wei Xuancheng to assist Liu Qin, hoping to impress Liu Qin and make him feel at ease to be a virtuous king.

It should be said that this goal of Emperor Xuan of Han was achieved, and Liu Qin did not have any substantive rebellion in his life. Later, even Emperor Hancheng, the son of Emperor Yuan of Han, respected him more.
