On September 27, 1944, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China issued an instruction to carry out the work in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Anhui region, pointing out: "In order to prepare for the counter-offensive and cause the conditions of the allied forces, our army should have a new development plan for the work in the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Anhui region, especially the work in Zhejiang should be regarded as the main development direction." ”
The CPC Central Committee also proposed that the guerrilla column in eastern Zhejiang should send capable troops to the coastal enemy lines south of Tiantai to carry out guerrilla warfare until the junction of Pingyang, Fujian, and Zhejiang; in addition to consolidating the existing areas, the central work of the southern Jiangsu troops should be placed on the southwest bank of Taihu Lake and stretched along the Beijing-Hangzhou Highway into Tianmu Mountain, thus creating a strategic situation of crossing the Qiantang River and opening up with eastern Zhejiang; and the party committee of the eastern Zhejiang region should strengthen the work of Jinhua, Yiwu, Yaxian, Tonglu, and Fuyang to welcome the southern jiangsu troops to the south.

In view of the insufficient strength of the existing troops in southern Jiangsu, ye fei and Zhu Kejing should also lead two main regiments, and draw a group of former southern Jiangsu and Zhejiang Yubu to cross the river from the Central China Bureau to join the 16th Brigade and jointly undertake the task of advancing south. At the same time, the 6th Division was restored, with Ye Fei as its commander.
After Su Yu, commander of the 1st Division of the New Fourth Army and commander of the Soviet Central Military Region, received instructions from the CPC Central Committee and a telegram from the Central China Bureau soliciting opinions, he couldn't help but feel excited: The landscape in the southeast is closely related to Su Yu's life!
The Anti-Japanese Advance Brigade, the Three-Year Guerrilla War in Southern Zhejiang, the Advance Detachment of the New Fourth Army, and the Jiangnan Headquarters, the most important and proud stages of Su Yu's life, were spent there; the geography and social conditions there were so familiar to him; there were also many comrades who had fought with him and the people who were interdependent with each other...
Su Yu decided to ask Miao to carry out the strategic task of going south, and reported his opinions to the Central China Bureau and the New Fourth Army Headquarters. Chairman Mao finally decided: "It is agreed that Su Yu will lead two regiments to the south to develop Jiangsu and Zhejiang, and if necessary, another one should be transferred from the 1st and 2nd divisions, and all southern Jiangsu and Zhejiang will be under the unified command of Su, and Ye Fei will stay in Charge of Suzhong." ”
Just before Su Yu was preparing to go south, the Coastal Defense Brigade of the Eastern Zhejiang Column, in order to seize the "springboard" for cooperating with the Allied forces in the Zhoushan Archipelago, had already waged a bloody battle on Dayushan Island, a remote island in the Zhoushan Archipelago along the coast of Eastern Zhejiang.
Dayushan Island is located in the northwest of Zhoushan Main Island, the whole island is about six kilometers long and 1.5 meters wide. 5 kilometers, there are more than 400 households, more than 1,000 people, the local people mostly fish for a living. After the fall of eastern Zhejiang, the Japanese army used the Zhoushan Islands as an important naval base off the coast of Zhejiang, especially after the outbreak of the Pacific War in December 1941, and further strengthened its control of the Zhoushan Islands and their nearby sea surfaces, using the Zhoushan Islands as a strategic base for Japan to support the Pacific War. Although there is no Japanese puppet army stronghold on Dayushan Island, there are often Japanese minions on the island.
The Zhejiang East Column Command decided that the Coastal Defense Brigade would send some armed forces to open up hidden island guerrilla base areas, develop and strengthen the island struggle, and contain the enemy's strength, so as to serve as a "springboard" for the allied forces to march into the Zhoushan Islands in the future. Tan Qilong, political commissar of the column, and He Kexi, commander of the column, gave this task to Zhang Dapeng, commander of the coastal defense brigade.
After the necessary reconnaissance and deployment, the Coastal Defense Brigade decided to lead the 1st Squadron led by Deputy Captain Chen Tiekang to carry out this glorious and arduous task.
On the evening of August 19, 1944, more than 70 people from the 1st Squadron of the Coastal Defense Brigade set out from Cixi Guyaopu and arrived at Dayushan Island smoothly in the early morning of the 21st. There was only one detachment of puppet troops on the island, less than ten people. Squadron 1 quickly took control of the entire island, carrying out mass work on the island.
In order to do a good job in united front work, the shangdao troops did not arrest Zhang Along, the leader of the puppet army detachment, nicknamed "Shashan Long," thus leaving behind this "cancerous tumor" and causing disaster.
On the evening of the 22nd, this dead-hearted traitor "Shashan Long" took advantage of the lack of preparation of the New Fourth Army and smuggled himself to Daishan with Wang Cairong, the chief of the security guard, and reported to the Japanese puppet army the landing of the 1st Squadron on Dayushan Island.
In the early morning of the 25th, everything on Big Fish Mountain Island seemed very peaceful. Suddenly, the rumbling sound of motors sounded in the east of Big Fish Mountain Island. Xu Yihong, who was looking forward to the post, immediately alerted the leader of the 5th squad who led the squad, and the 5th squad leader rushed to the squadron headquarters and reported to Chen Tiekang: "More than ten enemy ships were found and rushed towards Dayushan Island. After hearing the news, Chen Tiekang felt that the situation was serious, and while ordering all squads to make preparations for battle, he also called a meeting of company and platoon cadres. Everyone unanimously believes that there is no place for troops to move and cannot be hidden on the isolated island of the hanging sea, and there is only one way out: fight! Fight resolutely!
Chen Tiekang immediately ordered The Chief Secretary, Shen Changwen, to take charge of the evacuation of logistics personnel and to help the masses move.
Hong Zhu, commander of the squadron and secretary of the party branch, made a brief mobilization to the troops, calling on everyone to fight heroically for the independence of the nation and the liberation of the people! He asked everyone to be calm in battle, save every bullet, and destroy more enemies! Grab the position as fast as you can.
Subsequently, Chen Tiekang and squadron commander Cheng Keming led Yang Wenhai platoon to occupy the Datungang position, Hong Zhu led Lu Xianzhang's platoon to occupy the flaggang position, and deputy platoon commander Lu Linsheng led 18 fighters to occupy the Huzhuangtou position -- 3 positions were just in the corner of the chair, which could not only monitor the enemy's possible landing points, but also provide fire support to each other and control the beachhead positions.
At about eight o'clock in the morning, the Japanese puppet army suppressed the positions of the New Fourth Army with the fierce strafing of two aircraft and the artillery bombardment of battleships, and on the other hand, avoided the frontal blockade of the New Fourth Army, landed at the south and north ends of Dayushan Island, and then attacked the New Fourth Army in two ways, burning and looting along the way, which was very crazy.
As soon as the enemy at the beachhead of the Little Western Ocean landed, he was violently attacked by the soldiers of the New Fourth Army in the flag-fighting position, and he was left to the ground and defeated.
When the enemy commander saw the situation, he ordered the enemy who landed in the south and north to step up their encirclement, and on the other hand, he used more fierce artillery fire to bombard the flag gang position and drove the Japanese puppet army to charge again. When the Japanese puppet army was hardened and climbed to the hill, Hong Zhu shouted to the commanders and fighters of the whole platoon: "Comrades, bite the enemy and beat him fiercely, causing him to break his waist and back, and his head to blossom!" The Czech machine gun in the platoon spewed out angry tongues of fire, bullets and grenades flew into the enemy group, and the soldiers once again repelled the enemy's charge.
In the northern position of Da'ao Gang, after the fierce bombardment of the enemy's guns, a group of Japanese troops with large puppet troops, shrunk their heads, bent over, and climbed to the mountainside in fear and began to carry out a reconnaissance attack.
Da'ao Gang is the main position of the 1st Squadron, with the flag-fighting post position on the left and the Huzhuangtou position on the right as a barrier. Chen Tiekang calmly put the enemy into the fire net, and then at the sound of an order, the machine gun and rifle opened fire at the same time, knocking the enemy off the hill.
The rout of the flag post and the daao gang made the Japanese commander call the puppet army "bastard" and "waste", and armed with a command knife, coerced the leader of the puppet army to take the lead in the charge. Under the cover of fierce artillery fire, the enemy rushed out, attacked from north to south, divided the siege, and tried in vain to capture the positions of the New Fourth Army in one fell swoop.
However, the New Fourth Army fought tenaciously, and after more than an hour of fierce fighting, it once again repelled the enemy's attack, and the three positions of Da'ao Gang, Daqi Gang, and Huzhuangtou stood majestically.
In the afternoon, the enemy gasped at the bottom of the hill, adjusting his strength, and constantly bombarding the island with the gunfire of the ship.
At this time, the commanders and fighters of the New Fourth Army were covered in dust, bloodstained, and some of their wounds were still bleeding. But all the people could not care about the pain, exhaustion, and hunger and thirst, and hurriedly settled the wounded, buried their fallen comrades, stepped up their efforts to repair the fortifications, and prepared for the fierce battle that was coming.
At about 1 p.m., the Japanese army changed its tactics and concentrated its forces to attack the flag post, and the shells exploded like hail at the flag post, and for a while the smoke billowed from the flag post, and the rocks were blown to pieces, accumulating a thick layer of silt. The soldiers of the New Fourth Army used the crater as cover, used stone as gunshots, stubbornly resisted, and repelled the enemy's attacks again and again. At this time, the casualties of the troops are getting larger and the ammunition will be exhausted. In the face of the enemy's joint sea, land, and air attack, the wounded instructor Hong Zhu kept mobilizing from the battlefield and led everyone to sing the battle song of the New Fourth Army, "The Battle of Fanchang":
The gateway to southern Anhui, on the Yangtze River,
The calm prosperity has become a battlefield full of flames.
Shameless Japanese bandits, navy, army and air force attacked together...
Our blood has carried forward the glory of the nation...
The situation became more and more critical, and seeing that the flag-raising position could not be saved, Hong Zhu took out the documents from his purse and lit a fire. At this time, the platoon leader Lu Xianzhang came with 1 machine gun, and he asked HongZhu to retreat with a few soldiers. Hong Zhu resolutely refused and ordered Lu Xianzhang to lead everyone to retreat. Before the retreating commanders and fighters left, they heard Hong Zhu's shell gun firing, which was him blocking the enemy and covering his comrades... Another single shot was heard, which was the sound of the enemy's gunshots having rushed to the hill and the Hong instructor reported to the living comrades that he had fought until the last breath.
The Lu Linsheng platoon guarding the position at Huzhuangtou also fought very hard, and the situation was very critical. When Lu Linsheng, who was seriously injured in the leg, was forcibly carried off the position by the warrior Wang Gensheng, there were only 3 people left on the position. The squad leader Zhang Zongfa led the soldier Zhang Xiaodi and the Chu Company Platoon to engage in a life-and-death struggle with the Japanese troops who rushed up the hill, killing the Japanese commander on the spot. Zhang Zongfa and Chu Lian platoon were killed in a fight with the enemy, and after the warrior Zhang Xiaodi was wounded, he took advantage of the enemy's confusion and rolled down the hill.
After the fall of Qigang and Huzhuangtou, the brutal battle moved to Dafangang. When the Japanese army attacked the hill with all its might, the soldier Zhu Dajun calmly responded to the battle and killed 3 Japanese troops in succession. Shi Tieshan, the leader of the 1st squad and machine gunner, stood up, his face full of anger, his eyes wide open, and the machine gun swept through, killing seven or eight enemies at once. When he was finally hit several times, he endured the pain, gritted his teeth, and finished the last round of bullets. Then he threw off the core of his gun, jumped out of the trench, waved the butt of his rifle, fought with the enemy, and finally fell into a pool of blood. Other warriors also jumped out of the trenches and engaged the enemy in a thrilling white-knife battle. The wounded could not walk, so they raised stones to fight the enemy. Just when the enemy was glad to occupy the hill and tried to capture the warriors of the New Fourth Army alive, a soldier was carrying 2 grenades, and when the enemy approached, 2 grenades exploded one after another, killing many Japanese devils.
The fierce fighting continued until 3 p.m. The Japanese devils, with superior troops and sophisticated equipment, occupied this position under heavy casualties. The blood of the anti-Japanese heroes stained the barren hills red and watered the flowers of victory in the War of Resistance.
At 5 p.m., the enemy withdrew from Dayushan Island and carried the captured and wounded of the New Fourth Army to the battleship. On the way, 3 warriors jumped into the sea, two of which were strafed by the enemy with machine guns and died in the sea; the warrior Li Jingen was shot in the left arm, but still stubbornly crossed, struggling to swim towards Dayushan Island, and was later rescued by local fishermen. The inhumane Japanese army, in flagrant violation of international law on the treatment of prisoners of war, will be massacred by the soldiers of the New Fourth Army, who are on battleship No. 105.
Li Jingen returned to the island, found Zhang Xiaodi, who was wounded and broke through, and then met more than a dozen comrades who jumped off the cliff to escape from danger, and successively found nearly twenty wounded, who were all escaped under the cover of the local masses.
On September 10, 1944, the Zhejiang East Column specially held a commendation meeting to publicize the battle deeds of Dayushan Island in the mighty mountains and rivers, commend the heroic models in the battle of Dayushan Island, and award them with prizes. The "Battle Newspaper" of the New Fourth Army also compiled and printed a comic book of "Blood Battle of the Great Fish Mountain" and printed. Captain Zhang Dapeng also composed a song for the battle of Dayushan Island. It sings:
Howling and roaring wind,
O sea of white waves,
A ship adrift at sea.
We all have our comrades riding! ......
Heroes of the sea fight devils!
Rest in peace!
