Who is Luo Wenjia?

He was once a "political genius" in Taiwan. Luo Wenjia, 54, graduated from the Department of Political Science at National Taiwan University. During his college years, Luo Wenjia actively participated in the student movement and was the first president of the National Taiwan University Student Union. After graduation, Luo Wenjia started from Chen Shui-bian's deputy office staff and followed him all the way, becoming Chen Shui-bian's right and left hand.

After Chen Shui-bian was elected mayor of Taipei in 1994, the 28-year-old Luo Wenjia became the director of the Taipei Municipal Government Information Department and the spokesman of the Taipei Municipal Government, becoming the youngest administrative officer in Taiwan at that time, and was once known as the "Golden Boy of Politics".

In 1998, when Chen Shui-bian ran for re-election as mayor of Taipei, Luo Wenjia served as his campaign director-general; in 1999, Chen Shui-bian ran for the leadership of the Taiwan region, and Luo Wenjia served as director of the Cultural and Propaganda Department of the Democratic Progressive Party. Luo Wenjia: The DPP has more problems than imagined

In the 2018 "nine-in-one" election, the DPP was defeated, the then party chairman Tsai Ing-wen handed over the party power, and in early 2019, Zhuo Rongtai won the party competition and took over the position of party chairman, finding Luo Wenjia, who had been violating the political arena for more than a decade, as secretary general.

Some DPP members have applauded the "Zhuo Luo system", believing that Zhuo Rongtai and Luo Wenjia are a very powerful combination of the DPP's Mesozoic generation, and the cooperation between the two will be the key force to promote the great victory in the 2020 election. But in fact, during Luo Wenjia's tenure as secretary general of the Democratic Progressive Party, he encountered the "Cai Lai controversy" in the party primary election, which was so deadly, and the controversy over the nomination of the people's representatives. He and Zhuo Rongtai were in the most terrifying political environment, and once fell into internal and external compulsion.

The most typical is that when the DPP held a regular meeting on May 1, 2019, Luo Wenjia was strongly encircled and suppressed by the Standing Committee of the "Pro-British Faction" in the DPP because he had posted on Facebook in advance that he said that he would "confirm the schedule of the 2020 primary election today". In the end, Luo Wenjia was forced to change the "discussion case" of the 2020 primary election schedule to a "report case", and Zhuo Rongtai bowed to the Standing Committee of the "Standing Committee of the Ying Faction" to apologize.

After this battle, Luo Wenjia told the media afterwards, "When I came, I did not expect that this 'home' would have more problems than I imagined. After the 2020 general election, on January 15, Luo Wenjia announced at the DPP's regular meeting that his task had been achieved, asked to resign as secretary general, and expressed his attitude that he would not stay in office.

Luo Wenjia warned: Sooner or later something will happen to the DPP

Just over a year after returning to Taiwanese politics, Luo Wenjia turned around and retired naked, not holding any public office. Recalling this experience of taking charge of party affairs, Luo Wenjia said that he must admit that the DPP has changed a lot from the party culture, faction ecology and even party values. The DPP has now become a "secular political party," and some of its methods and boundaries have exceeded his understanding. Luo Wenjia believes that if this continues, sooner or later something will happen to the DPP.

Luo Wenjia's words said that at the moment when Tsai Ing-wen made a declaration of honest government within the party. Since Tsai Ing-wen was re-elected, the DPP's actions have been described by some Taiwan media as evolving from "one-person corruption" to "collective sharing of the booty."
