In Reloaded, the Architect promises that as long as Neo cooperates (destroying Zion and choosing who to rebuild it), he can survive in the rebooted "matrix", rich and powerful (of course, his "savior" superpowers will also be stripped away).
According to the "architects", before their current "matrix" version, there were 5 different versions of the "matrix" (separated from each other by the catastrophic collapse of the system). The "architect" thought that the 1.0 version of it was the most perfect, that all human beings "lived" in a heavenly world, free from disease and suffering; but he soon discovered that humans could not live in such a carefree environment for a long time, and many people died as a result. So the 2.0 version of the "matrix" was simply designed as a "hell" full of countless demons and ghosts, allowing human beings to live in fear and great uncertainty all the time. This, of course, was another failure, so from 3.0 onwards, the "architect" began to design the "matrix" with reference to the historical process of mankind itself, and after several iterations, there was a version that could now run relatively stably.
At the same time, these five early versions of the "matrix" also have their own "chosen ones" (saviors). Morpheus also said that there was another savior before Neo, and it was he who liberated the first human being from the "matrix" (in fact, the "architect" deliberately designed it, because 1% of the population subconsciously rejects the world simulated by the "matrix", and these people will become very unstable when they access the "matrix", always feeling that they are living in a dream, and in severe cases, it will cause the collapse of the system, so simply arrange an exit for them to the real world).
In fact, there are some clues in how Monica Bellucci's character Persephone views Neo (if she helps Neo find the "locksmith" out of jealousy, but insisting on finding Neo to kiss is worth playing).
Persephone said that the former Merovinga and Neo were very similar, not what they are now. This almost makes it clear that Merovinga and Neo share the same identity, but now that they have been absorbed by the "matrix", they are intoxicated by false power and willing to degenerate; Persephone loves her chosen son as much as Trinity, which is why she insists on kissing Neoso in order to find the feeling of that year.

Since the collapse of the "Hell Matrix" in 2.0, the "demons and ghosts" that originally came with the system naturally could not survive in the "Matrix" modeled on modern society, and these programs were facing the fate of being deleted, so Mero Wenjia just used the power at hand to shelter such useless programs and form a force of his own.
The two merovinga men in charge of guarding the "locksmith" in the film are watching the 60s horror movie "Dracula's Bride", and The bullet used by Persephone when he killed one of them is a silver bullet, which is to imply that these "monsters" from the 2.0 "matrix" still follow the old system rules, and of course retain their own weaknesses.
There is a detail that is very interesting, of course, Merovenga knows Neo's identity as a savior, but his men also use silver bullets when shooting at Neo, and when all the bullets are blocked by Neo, Merovinga's face is quite surprised.
Maybe his abilities were different from those of Neo when he was a savior (he may not be able to use his mind like Neo did, but has other abilities, so they naturally think that guns using silver bullets are also effective for the savior). This is also why Neo can easily block bullets, but will be slashed by the ancient cold weapons collected by the Merovinga Mansion.
Finally, to talk about the ending of the Ghost Twins, in "Reloaded", they were blown up by Morpheus, but director Wachowski confirmed in an interview that the Ghost Twins were not actually dead, their programs were just scattered in the atmosphere of the "matrix" in a state of nothingness, and it took Merovinga a long time to re-collect them, so the Gemini did not appear in the third part.
