The Xiamen Municipal People's Procuratorate alleged that from 1995 to 2019, defendant Zhang Jian took advantage of his position as deputy director and director of the Hubei Provincial Prison Administration, deputy director and director of the Hubei Provincial Department of Justice, vice president of the Hubei Provincial High People's Court, and president of the Anhui Provincial High People's Court, to accept the entrustment of others and seek benefits for others in matters such as project contracting and case trial; Seeking improper benefits for others in matters such as civil enforcement, and accepting property from others totaled more than RMB71.79 million.
During the trial, the procuratorial organs presented relevant evidence, the defendant Zhang Jian and his defender conducted cross-examination, the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court, and Zhang Jian made a final statement, and expressed his guilt and remorse in court. More than 30 people, including people's congress deputies, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,reporters, and people from all walks of life, observed the trial.
At the end of the trial, the court adjourned the trial and announced the verdict at a later date.
