He knelt down and prostrated three heads to Zhang Baifa, thanking Zhang Baifa for his on-demand grace.
Coincidentally, Zhang Baifa once prostrated three times for his "benevolent teacher" Wan Li in front of the spirit of Comrade Wan Li, a revolutionary of the older generation, regardless of the support and persuasion of others, and choked up with Wan Bo, the son of Wan Li who accompanied him: "I am a student, and I should give the teacher such a disciple's gift." ”
Behind these three heads, there is a deep friendship between two people who are also teachers and friends.
In 1948, due to poverty, thirteen-year-old Zhang Baifa followed his father from his hometown of Xianghe to Beijing. However, the father and son who had just arrived in a different place were penniless and embarrassed, and Zhang Baifa had no money to study, so he could only temporarily follow his father and weave cloth in a small room for a living.
Soon, new China was founded, and Beijing, as the capital, began a large-scale urban construction work. Zhang Baifa, who was young and vigorous, was originally unwilling to stick to a small room to weave cloth for a lifetime, and when he saw that Beijing's construction was "a hundred wastes to be rebuilt", Zhang Baifa couldn't help but be moved.
Under his bitter pleading, Zhang's father tried to entrust people by all means, and finally stuffed Zhang Baifa into an engineering team and followed him as a steel apprentice.
From weaver to steel apprentice, such a huge shift in identity is not just a matter of craftsmanship, the bigger problem is the disparity in physical strength. Seeing that others can easily be competent for the work of the rebar apprentice, Zhang Baifa crossed a heart, how many others can move, he also insists on moving as much, and even move more.
At the beginning, such a sudden change in labor intensity made Zhang Baifa's hands and feet tremble unconsciously, the dishes and chopsticks could not be forced, and he lay on the bed at night with soreness, but due to his gritted teeth, zhang Baifa soon overcame the difficulties and began to "walk in the forefront of many workers."

In 1952 and 1953, Zhang Baifa was selected by the party organization for two consecutive years to be sent to the regiment school for "further study" with the help of excellent performance. During the two studies of the regiment school, Zhang Baifa eagerly studied the relevant knowledge of the party school and constantly improved his ideological consciousness and cultural accomplishment, which also laid a solid foundation for his later "ascension".
April 1954 was a very memorable month for Zhang Baifa, who was 20 years old at the time.
In that month, Zhang Baifa successfully joined the Chinese Communist Party that he had longed for, and in April, he also led 11 other steel tiers to imitate the "Hu Yaolin Youth Commando" at that time, with the approval of the secretary of the party branch at the construction site, and established a "Zhang Baifa Youth Commando", which was mainly good at cement and steel reinforcement.
The newly established "Zhang Baifa Youth Commando" is full of enthusiasm and is ready to show its fists and feet in Beijing. However, the first project they faced was "far from" the steel bar: the party organization decided to arrange for them to dig the sewers of Beijing.
Behind this work, the party organization also implies the intention of testing this new team. In the face of such work that was incompatible with the past, Zhang Baifa's youth commandos were not discouraged, they seriously studied, formulated relevant work plans, and even exceeded the work before the time specified by the organization, handing over a satisfactory answer sheet to the party organization;
At the same time, this commando team also found a new "ideological center" in this project, that is: "in the face of difficulties, face difficulties, and have the courage to explore different fields." ”
This new idea made a good start for the Youth Commandos.
After that, Zhang Baifa led his "brothers" to learn nearly twenty different types of work skills such as welding, ovens, and brackets from reinforced concrete to nearly 20 different types of work, and successively went to more than 800 construction sites, including the construction of unknown small residential buildings, as well as the construction of workers' stadiums and the Great Hall of the People.
Because Zhang Baifa's team was shrewd and capable, "all-encompassing," the "Zhang Baifa Youth Commando" became a model team in Beijing, and Zhang Baifa was also received by Deng Xiaoping and other state leaders as a "model worker."
At the reception, Deng Xiaoping shook Zhang Baifa's hand, carefully listened to the story of Zhang Baifa learning more than twenty skills, and said emotionally: "All-rounder is a good direction, the country's 600 million people, everyone should strive to be a generalist!" ”

Between Zhang Baifa and Li Ruihuan, there seems to be an invisible thin line, implicating these two originally unrelated people. The two of them, one from Hebei and the other from Tianjin, were originally quite far apart, but they really got to know each other because of the grand project of the Great Hall of the People.
Zhang Baifa's team once again created a miracle on this construction site, with the number of more than three hundred people, they used nine days to raid the work, and completed the project volume of other teams for more than a month; at the same time, Zhang Baifa also conquered the problem of "steel frame crossing" on this site.
Also famous on this construction site is a "carpenter", that is, Li Ruihuan. In order to complete the task faster, Li Ruihuan developed a new type of wooden plank planer called "cart type", which solved the technical problem of "enlarging the sample" and greatly shortened the original construction period.
Because of the outstanding work, after the completion of the Great Hall of the People, Zhang Baifa and Li Ruihuan were called to talk together, promoted from commando captain to deputy secretary of the party committee, or went to the other side's company to "cross-post". For these two people, going to different companies and doing different jobs is both a test and an opportunity.
At that time, Wanli was serving as the vice mayor of Beijing, and at the same time, he was mainly in charge of China's comprehensive construction work, and served as a deputy commander in the "Ten Major Constructions" project in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Therefore, for these two newly promoted comrades from the construction working class, Wanli can be said to be very welcome, and he has devoted himself to cultivating the two, and the two have not failed to live up to Wanli's serious guidance.
During their tenure as deputy secretaries of the party committee, the two made remarkable achievements in their work, and at the same time contributed a lot of valuable experience and strength to Wanli's work, and were even jokingly called "The Second General of Hum Ha" around Wanli.

Zhang Baifa's academic qualifications have indeed been a "weakness" for him. At a young age, due to poverty and the limitations of work, Zhang Baifa never had the opportunity to complete his university studies. This regret continued until Zhang Baifa was promoted to vice mayor of Beijing and was given a chance to re-learn.
However, at that time, Zhang Baifa was already 49 years old, and among his classmates, he was already an elderly student. For reading, Zhang Baifa has begun to show a slight difficulty, in addition, various jobs in Beijing often "drag him back".
However, Zhang Baifa's personality of "not accepting defeat" and "facing difficulties" was once again stimulated, and when he was busy at work, he listened to the recording and made up lessons afterwards; if he could not remember, he copied it several times by hand. In the late 1980s, Zhang Baifa finally got a diploma from the Correspondence College of Chinese Min University, fulfilling his dream of going to college.

After confirming the facts, Zhang Baifa summoned the entire high-level responsible for the urban construction part to come to this dangerous building and conduct a "self-reflection" meeting.
At the meeting, Zhang Bai said passionately:
"I am deeply saddened by such a construction problem. This building has been repaired for a year and eight months, but it is still impossible to live, which is simply irresponsible to the people! As the mayor in charge, I can't help but blame it, so I have expressed my willingness to spontaneously pay a month's salary at the municipal government meeting. In fact, Zhang Baifa has done more than one practical thing for the people. During his tenure as vice mayor, Beijing's urban construction was in a state of rapid growth. The airport expressway, the second ring road, the third ring road, and even more than 80 overpasses in downtown Beijing have Zhang Baifa behind them.

In order to mobilize more migrant workers to work and let the Asian Games venues and related supporting facilities be completed smoothly and on schedule, Zhang Baifa personally "put on the battlefield" and promised the migrant workers with a loudspeaker: "Even if the work is stopped due to various force majeure during the construction of the venue, the wages will be paid!" ”
At the same time, Zhang Baifa also made the famous "military order" in front of the central leaders: If the Asian Games are delayed because of the venue project, I will jump from the top floor of the Beijing-Guangzhou Center, the highest in Beijing!
In the face of such a determined "military order" and the unremitting supervision and efforts of Zhang Baifa, on September 22, 1990, the flame of the 11th Asian Games was lit as scheduled in the newly built Asian Games venue in Beijing.
In 1997, at the age of 62, Zhang Baifa officially retired from his post in Beijing. However, after retirement, the old mayor is still worried about the construction and development of Beijing. He has made many "private visits" in front of various large buildings in Beijing to observe the current construction projects. Until 2019, 84-year-old Zhang Baifa died of illness in Beijing.
