"Confucius of Kansai" refers to Yang Zhen of the Eastern Han Dynasty.

The Southern Dynasty Song Fan Ye's "Later Han Shu Yang Zhen Biography" contains: Yang Zhen, Zi Boqi, a native of Hongnong Huayin (present-day Huayin City, Shaanxi Province), a famous courtier during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and the son of the hermit Yang Bao.

When Yang Zhen was young, he studied the Ouyang Shangshu with Taichang Huanyu. As an adult, he became famous for his proficiency in scriptures, extensive reading of books, and concentrated on exploring Confucian classics, and was praised by local Confucians as "Confucius of Kansai".
