The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is the only international film festival in Japan that has been recognized by the International Film Producers Association (FIAPF) and is on a par with famous film festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlin. It is committed to discovering outstanding Asian and international films and providing a broader platform for young filmmakers to display.
In 1985, the 1st Tokyo International Film Festival kicked off Japan's large-scale film festival in Shibuya, a "movie district" with 16 movie theaters, and Akira Kurosawa's work "Chaos", which was screened during the festival, with a total of 140 works screened during the festival. Since 2014, TIFF has worked hand-in-hand with international film festivals in Busan, Hong Kong, Shanghai and other places to lay the groundwork for the revitalization of Asian cinema.

The Tokyo International Film Festival has always been a blessed destination for Chinese-language films. Chinese filmmakers and Chinese films have been active on the stage of the Tokyo Film Festival since the late 1980s, and many well-known filmmakers such as Wu Tianming, Xie Jin, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Liu Xiaoqing and many others have served as members of the jury of the Tokyo Film Festival, and Gong Li, Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige have also served as the chairman of the festival jury in 2003, 2005 and 2013 respectively.
At last year's 33rd Film Festival, among the 32 shortlisted works of "Tokyo Premiere 2020", a total of 4 Films by Chinese directors were shortlisted, namely "Love Song 1980" directed by Mei Feng and starring Li Xian and Chunxia; "Rabbit Violence" directed by Shen Yu and starring Wan Qian, Huang Jue and Li Gengxi; "Lifeless" directed by Shi Meng and starring Hou Yingjue and Jiang Xuxuan, and "Sauce Dog" directed by Zhang Zhiwei and starring He Yewen.

In Chongqing, a large rear in the 1940s, a Shuhua farm with rich products but always losing money was staged between two farm directors, a battle between the old and new farm directors. The film, based on Lao She's novel, seems to narrate a timeless human fable.

The film tells a very young, very subtle love story, Lin Jinghe, who works in Beijing, takes a leave of absence to return to his rural hometown that he has not returned to for 10 years, and he meets his former first love Nuan at the bridgehead of his hometown, which opens a memory between him and his former lover Nuan.
1994 Best Film in the Main Competition Section: "The Contrarian Son of Heaven"

The film is based on Zhang Chenggong's reportage "Crossing in the Bitter Sea", which tells the story of Feng Ying, a rural woman who poisoned her husband, and her son Guan Jian, who denounced her mother's crimes when she grew up.

The film tells the story of the political movements of the People's Republic of China from 1953 to 1967.
1987 Best Film in the Main Competition Section: "The Old Well"
Director: Wu Tianming
The film tells the story of Qiao Ying, a rural girl, and Sun Wangquan, a young man from the same village, who have a common ambition to yearn for the world outside the mountains, but it is not what anyone wants.
