Smart city is an upgraded version of the digital city, and the dynamic implementation of its management services is closely related to the virtual geographic environment. This paper first summarizes the overview of the virtual geographic environment, then summarizes the key technologies used in the smart city of the virtual geographic environment, analyzes the characteristics of 3D dynamic simulation, virtual-real interaction, multi-agent, digital twin technology and its application scope in smart city management, and then analyzes the research status and challenges of the virtual geographic environment in the smart city from the perspective of application; and finally summarizes the real-time display, efficient algorithm, and virtual geographic environment in the smart city under the new era of artificial intelligence and VR.
