Manchester United officially announced on June 5 that the club had signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred. According to the BBC, the transfer fee was £52.5 million.
Fred, whose full name is Frederico Rodríguez de Paul Santos, was born on 5 March 1993 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and plays as a midfielder at 1.69 m tall. Fred joined the Atlético Mineiro team at the age of 10, joining Gremio in 2009 and moving to Brazil International a year later. In 2013, Fred left South America to land in Europe to join the Ukrainian Super League giant Donetsk Miner. So far, he has made 156 appearances for miners, achieving two consecutive league titles and three consecutive cup titles. He was also named in this summer's World Cup squad, having previously made eight appearances for Brazil.
