Before joining the army in December 2012, Guo Yabin considered himself a "weak seedling in the greenhouse": thin and weak, he could do up to five push-ups, and none of the horizontal bars could be pulled up.

The character of not accepting defeat has become the driving force for Guo Yabin to forge ahead: get up half an hour earlier than others every day, rest for half an hour less, and let yourself sweat more.

In 2016, Guo Yabin participated in the all-brigade competition, and won two runners-up in the individual comprehensive drill and the 3000-meter run, and was awarded the third class meritorious service once in the same year.
In December 2020, Guo Yabin took off his beloved green military uniform. When the Taigu District Veterans Affairs Bureau of his hometown of Jinzhong City went through the relevant procedures, a recruitment announcement recommended by the staff attracted his interest: the Taigu District Fire Rescue Brigade recruited contract firefighters.
