Since the beginning of May, NATO member states have jointly held a large-scale exercise "Defenders of Europe - 2021". The exercise crossed the Atlantic, crossed Europe and entered the Black Sea. As of now, the exercises are still continuing. In the face of large military exercises on its doorstep, Russia has also made a tit-for-tat response.

The Information Office of the Russian Northern Fleet released a message on the 4th that a MiG-31 fighter of the Russian Air Force flew with a US patrol aircraft in the Barents Sea on the same day.

The news said that the Russian army found an air target approaching the Russian border over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea on the same day, and then a MiG-31 fighter on combat duty took off to identify the target. After the Russian warplane confirmed that the target was a U.S. Navy patrol aircraft, it flew with it. After the U.S. patrol plane flew off the Russian border, the Russian warplane returned to the base. The Northern Fleet said that the Russian fighters strictly complied with the rules for the use of international airspace throughout the flight.

At the same time, the Russian Black Sea Fleet issued a statement on the 4th that the fleet's Ingush missile ship conducted an artillery exercise at a training range in the Black Sea.

During the exercise, the Ingush guided-missile ship spotted an imaginary air target and fired its artillery. The officers and men of the ship also conducted targeted training in mine clearance and fire extinguishing. After the exercise, the crew of the missile ship Ingush will continue to carry out maritime missions, the statement said.
